so what is your opinion?
the "swine" flu won't affect anyone and that it isn't real or some shite?
you don't think that it has to potential chance to become completely out of control by october?
think about it: 92,300 fans in tiger stadium, huddled close together, for 3+ hours.
now imagine one infected H1N1 patient decides to not stay home that saturday...

I know history, but your history is mostly science fiction. Get off of the sofa, maybe you can actually boost your immunity to infections by living a little rather than dreaming up death wishes.

First, I think he's saying affect the team by getting sick, not by dying.
Second, it's an added illness. Now you'll have regular flu and this flu(I'm assuming).

My opinion is this. The swine flu will be no greater risk to life nor any more infectious than the normal flu.
I travel extensively. I was in Asia during the bird flu scare, SARS etc. Healthy people have low risk. People with known illnesses should take precautions against all illnesses including flu.
The chances are high that someone with H1N1 or any flu will not stay home on Saturday night. The chances are no greater than any other year that there is some catastrophic break out of flu because of that.
Get over it Doctor Doom.

wrong
so when the CDC states that over 90,000 people could die from H1N1 this flu season, they are lying?

No. They are guessing. And they are guessing high as always. And they are wrong as always. The will error on the conservative side always.
They are making up all of the vaccine dosages and they do not even know how effective it will be and it will not be available until flu season is well underway. So much for advance planning.
By the way. I do not plan to take the shot. I do not even take the regular flu shot.

And the first part of your post was going so well as far as accuracy goes...
The seasonal strains of flu you described are usually descendants of last years flu, with minor changes..but still similar enough to have at least some immune response ready to go.
In this strain of swine flu, pretty much the entire virus has never infected a human until now. So NO ONE has an immune response to it. This is very important...even if you assume mortality/hospitalization rates the same as the "regular flu," the sheer number of people infected if there is no vaccination would overwhelm the health care system.
Going back to the topic however, I wouldn't be surpised that all it will take is for them to connect an outbreak to a football game (NFL or college), and the NCAA will get swept by with the hyseria and cancel games.

By the way. Those stupid mask that people wear, mostly in Asia will not stop a virus.
They will march side by side by the thousands right thru the mesh size of those mask.

quote:should you do a little research, you would learn that H1N1 spreads easily but is RARELY fatal. It is a scare tactic. Something to keep our minds off of real issues. just wait till football season. H1N1 will be a distant memory

If you want something to fear, H5N1 (avion influenza, bird flu) is the real worry. It doesnt spread as easily but is often fatal.

Some organizations will recieve doses of the vaccine before the general public...
one of them is NCAA football squads.

Who's talking death?
Even if it's not going to kill me(which I seriously doubt it would), I would prefer to not be throwing up for a week.

The 1918 flu pandemic (commonly referred to as the Spanish flu) was an influenza pandemic that spread to nearly every part of the world. It was caused by an unusually virulent and deadly influenza A virus strain of subtype H1N1. Historical and epidemiological data are inadequate to identify the geographic origin of the virus.[1] Most of its victims were healthy young adults, in contrast to most influenza outbreaks which predominantly affect juvenile, elderly, or otherwise weakened patients. The flu pandemic has also been implicated in the sudden outbreak of encephalitis lethargica in the 1920s.[2]
The pandemic lasted from March 1918 to June 1920[3], spreading even to the Arctic and remote Pacific islands. It is estimated that anywhere from 50 to 100 million people were killed worldwide.[4][5] [6][7][8] An estimated 500 million people, one third of the world's population (approximately 1.6 billion at the time), became infected.[5]
Back on topic. If half the team comes down with the flu at the same time our season will be affected.
