Did LSU go after him? Did he have baggage or was he just not an LSU fan? What was the deal with him? Just curious because watching the Ravens game got me thinking

he wasn't the only player that left. fsu, miami and other schools owned the state then.

Odd, because I could have sworn by reading here that Gerry DiNardo turned around recruiting, and had Lousiana locked down. Especially considering Reed's senior year in high school, LSU (with Hallman talent) won more games than Miami. That can't be right, Reed was from Louisiana, he was going to LSU no matter who was coach, according to Tigerdroppings ranter wisdom.

not really

miami was coming off a micron pc bowl appearance the year they signed reed

it had more to do with the miami pipeline into louisiana at the time

lsu was never in the picture for reed in reality. i went to high school with him and played ball for 2 years with him. he was turned on by miami early on and stuck with his commitment and never wavered. he was a senior in 1997, so if you look at lsu in the 10 years or so before that, compared to miami during that time period, it's easy to see why he would think the hurricanes program was a better fit at the time.

But we had DiNardo. Not sure how this is possible, to be honest.

Wasn't Miami on probation when Reed went there?

Just paying him the tribute he deserves every single day. He turned it around and brought our program to another level, by locking down the state and not signing players the caliber of Ed Reed. Brought back the magic baby. We should never, ever forget that.

From what I remember Butch Davis kept that kind of stuff under control, relatively speaking, during his time at Miami. I'm pretty sure they didn't have any incidents that were on the level of Cecil Collins when he was there.
