Urban, Road, and SFP are correct..

The statement (if Urban really said so) is almost universally true so why even make it? And why direct it toward TS? And how does TS's "drop-off" when behind compare against other venues? Some of TS's greatest noise has been when we were behind.

quote:

Tigerstadium isn't what it once was in noise, especially in terms of sustained noise..not even close to former standards.

I go back to '70. And I agree that "being in the stadium" doesn't mean as much as it once did. Games being on TV, more home games, more home games against disappointing OOC opponents, more day games due to TV . . . But TS on a given Sat night is still the best atmosphere in football and the envy of the rest of the football world.

quote:

Auburn and Florida are much better day game crowds, maybe also Tenn and/or Bama for big day games.

So how many day games have you been to at these sites?

quote:

Florida may also be better than LSU by night, if sustained noise rather than highest crescendo hit be the bulk of the grade.

I was at the Swamp in '98 (night game, close game, and a revenge game since we had defeated them in '97) and can honestly say I looked around from time-to-time and wondered to myself "so this is it." To the Swamp's credit it has earned a reputation so I'll consider the '98 game an anomaly.

quote:

Tigerstadium can still bring it, if at night and/or a close bigtime game..but as a whole is much lazier than the Tigerstadium of my childhood in the seventies and eighties.

IMO, because TS is so special at night we will always bring a quasi-disappointed attitude to day games.

Today's Tiger fans are soft and spoiled. If thier tigers fall a couple of TDs down, the fans in the stands fold up like a lawn chair and STFU.

I'd say the Penn state student section and crowd has pretty much taken that title... those frickers are louder than hell down 10 with like 3 mins left in the 4th quarter, the white outs, chanting 7 nation army...no way in hell our fans would could consistently perform in this manner anymore

So true! Methinks the crowd has become, in part, too gentrified. This is likely the fruit of the vastly increased ticket prices. Even with the capacity for more spectators, with all the stadium expansions, the noise does not seem what it was a couple decades ago.

it was so quiet that i told my entire section that USC had lost to stanford without yelling

Not the loudest I have heard but I was there and can say it was louder than average. Also, I am watching the replay as we speak and yes...FLbeing up by 2 score possessions wasn't helping, but every time we answered, the crowd got old school raucous.

Also, I do not know why we were going so crazy about moving to #1 in one/two major polls when we were already #1 in the other. And we lose it a week later. I think had it been another team besides USC, no one would have cared so much...but yes, it got loud as it gets and then 4 plays later Florida scores to go back up by 10.

I agee. These days there are many more corporate fat cats, trophy wives, etc. etc. there to see and be seen. There are not as many blue-collar, every day coonasses and rednecks with chips on their shoulder.

I suppose that's some of the price you pay for a bigger budget and a winning team but the TS crowd these days is not near as loud and menacing as it used to be.

True, but even Bear Bryant used to like scoring early in Tigerstadium for the same reason, it's not really a secret amongst current and former SEC HCs.

You are contradicting yourself fricktard. In a earlier post you said TS is a shell of what it used to be in 70's and now you are saying even Bear Bryant knew it. Total fricking retard.

This might be the dumbest thing that I have ever read. Tiger Stadium is ALWAYS at its LOUDEST when we are on the comback trail.

Tiger stadium was loudest when it held 78,000. The expectations weren't as high as they are now, and fans were insane whether LSU was ahead or behind. The south endzone was full of absolute lunatics, and goal line stands were epic (North end zone was that way in earlier times).

There have been a few games and a few moments since that have rivaled those times, but as a whole, it appears that the "jet set" fans of today will never be the same. Times have changed.

Doesn't mean that Tiger Stadium isn't still the greatest place for a college game, just not as raucus as in the past. just sayin

How do you figure? Stadium was empty when we were coming back against Troy, partially empty coming back against Oregon State, etc.

Bottom line, people leave much earlier because traffic sucks, LSU fans are spoiled with success.

In 2003 we had tasted a little success already (2001) but had not been to the top. Now we have been to the top, and are at the top.

Hopefully last season's punch to the chin is enough to get our fans back motivated.

that doesn't count because we would have been too pissed off to make noise.

against Oregon State,

Was raining 2 inches a fricking minute. The stands cleared just like when we played #1 florida st. So, this one doesn't count either.

name the loudest episodes in tiger stadium.

and i'll determine if it was a last minute comeback or not.

I remember when I was a Boy Scout and then even as an older teenager as a senior assistant scoutmaster we would get there before they opened the gates, then as they opened the gates we would usher people to their seats. We where in the south end upper deck back then it was U-40, U-50 and U-60. The stadium as since been renumbered. There was an aire about that stadium that was like you knew you where in a special place. Now, when you get in there it is like the fans expect to be in there and that special feeling is gone it is not like it used to be. The ordinary working man can no longer afford to buy a season tickets and as th eprice of the tickets went higher the ordinary or rowdy fans number has gone down. Even walking up to the stadium it was a special feeling about where you were. Even then you had those long horns that real loud, they have since been outlawed, any noise maker as far as that goes. You could hear those things a long way away. Much like the cowbells of Miss St.

I remember back then that place was deafening once the place was half full until it was half empty after the game especialy if they won. Now what he said is right it does get quiet when we get down and before it gets loud again it takes a big play by LSU to get it started again. Yes I think it has to do with the make-up of the crowd but, also I feel it has to do with the expectation of the sports fan they expect to win no matter who we play instead of hope to win that raises the enthusiaum of the crowd in the days gone by. Today it is a totaly different mindset with the fans it is what has changed the aire about Tiger Stadium. It is just a shell of what it used to be.

Though I still think that there is no other place that is as special as Tiger Stadium is on a Saturday Night it is in no way the way it used to be. But, those games are rare now because of money and TV. They have taken that given Saturday Night game in Tiger Stadium away and instead the average fan has to settle for TV at home or in a barroom.

This years game between LSU and Florida is a rare event between two top 5 programs. I do not believe it will happen too often in the future. I just hope for one game Tiger Stadium will put on display for all of the world of College football to see just how special a place Tiger Stadium is on a Saturday Night.

I hope this will bring back some memories of the way it used to be in Tiger Stadium and maybe if not but for just one game we can make this a very special Saturday night in Tiger Stadium for Urban Meyer and let him see that we do not have to ahead to make noise so loud that the opposing teams cannot hear. I am going to say
GO TIGER FANS! Make It Loud! GO TIGER FANS!
Lets all say
