Is this movie suppose to be epic? I heard about it but not sure what it is about. Isn't there a cartoon called Avatar? Is it based off that?

It is about humans occupying a planet and having these machines or cloned alien bodies called 'Avatars' to work and fight in the planet's hostile environment. The main character is a severely crippled man who has one of these 'Avatars' and he becomes involved with a conflict on the planet between the native species and the human occupiers.

There is a movie based on the cartoon that is coming out as well but that's not the James Cameron movie. The movie based on the TV cartoon is called "The Last Airbender" and is directed by M. Night Shyamalan. My son loves that cartoon.

James Cameron is working extremely closely with Ubisoft to develop Avatar, The Game. It's my understanding that the game and movie have literally been developed together step by step from day one. Should be interesting to see what happens

The trailer for "Avatar" won't come out until next Friday. It will be released on the previews for "Inglorious Basterds" so if you go watch that movie, you'll see "Avatar" on the previews.
Look for it online that day as well.

While there is a movie being made from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Avatar and A:TLA are not one in the same. Cameron is directing Avatar while M. Night Shyamalan is directing the other one. They had to change the title of the film to "The Last Airbender" due to Cameron buying a copyright on the name Avatar (at least for films).
