The Rockies' final offer was $4 million and a guaranteed major league callup by the end of 2002. Harrington turned down the deal, sat out the season and re-entered the draft in 2001.

Give me 1.2 and I'll become a Bama fan.

I blame that situation more on the sorry-arse franchise that drafted him.

I did the math....if that Harrington guy makes $11.50 an hour, working 40 hours a week, he can re-earn that $4.9 million he turned down in approximately 221.9 years.
I didn't account for him maybe getting a raise along the line somewhere, so maybe he can get it done a little more quickly

Talk about living with regret. Jesus, like losing the winning lottery ticket or some shite.

I'm certain Scott Boras is part of the problem also.

I don't think ZVR is an idiot but I do think he sold his dream pretty cheap.
Like Will Rogers (and I know most on here have no idea who he is), all I know is what I read in the papers.
According to all reports, ZVR has dreamed of playing at LSU most of his life. To me, that's a pretty serious dream and to lose it forever should be worth one hell of a lot of money. $1.2 mil today is not that kind of money.
He could have taken out an insurance policy for that to cover his arse and still played for LSU.
I wish the kid all the luck in the world and sorry he didn't make it to the Box but it would have taken a LOT more money than that for me to sell my dream had I been him.

You missed the point completely..Zack's ultimate dream was to pitch in the major leagues. He couldn't have picked a better organization to fast track that dream and make it reality. How many 17yr old kids do you know who have a mill in the bank and a base camp for the baseball equivalent of Mt. Everest?

I'm sure his real dream was to pitch in the major leagues. He's pretty smart saying that his dream was to pitch for LSU because that gave him even more leverage against the Pirates and probably a larger contract.

A dream turns into an afterthought if given the right amount of money, and a start to living out that ultimate goal. if by getting his price equals selling his dream cheap, then I'm sure he'll have nightmares about not playing at the box...please...

Rosenburg and his family are making the correct decision, you come to college in order to perpare youself for a career. Apparently Rosenburg now has a caeer.

This is correct.
Besides if baseball dosen't work out he has the money to go to college and will be older, hopefully wiser, and better able to wreck shop at Club Reggies.

I don't think he is an idiot, but I hate all of the I love LSU stuff and then he signs with the MLB. I understand he is a teenager and I am sure I would do the same. If I was offered 1.2 mil as a 17 year old, I would take it as well.

since when is $1.2 million a "cheap sellout"? Like one poster said, i'd become a Bama fan for $1.2 million. without question. That is A LOT OF MONEY.
