lack of 3rd party support
This is a main reason. # of EA titles released for the Dreamcast: 0. Without titles like Madden it made a lot of consumers go for the PS2. Sega Sports games were simply ok. The majority of the Dreamcast's better games were 1st party (Sonic Adventure, Phantasy Star Online, Samba de Amigo; even the more experimental games were mostly Sega (Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5)). Beyond that, third party support was relatively weak. Add Microsoft to the mix (which was bound to dominate the online market) and the Dreamcast lost its niche.
It was a revolutionary system though, well ahead of its time. There was nothing like jumping on PSO and taking out Dark Falz with 3 other super nerds.
