Her birthday is next tuesday and I wanna take her somewhere nice. I saw the $40 special on here. what restaurant is that for? I live in Hammond so New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and the Northshore are all options. Kinda wanna keep it under $100 since I am a college student.

Take Neauxla's advice and search the coolinary deals. I would go to Cuvee or the Pelican Club. Either place would suit your needs to a tee.

Any ideas on anything interesting to do after dinner?

If you are in Hammond, I would go to JacmelInn located in hammond if you have never been. Very nice place in a old house.

The $40 thing you saw was Restaurant August, and even with that special, it would blow your budget pretty quick.
If you want to go to N.O., there is a place called the Pelican Club that has some special deals right now that might work for you.

Am assuming you are over 21. Go to the Caraosel bar at the Hotel Montleonne(sp).
Go hear good music at the bars on Frenchman St.

Hit up the Marigny and check out DBA or any other place with live music. Snug Harbor etc..

Thanks for the help, I think the pelican club is my best bet. Anyone got any suggestions on what to choose from that coolinary menu? Can I bring my own wine and be charged a corking fee? I do not see anything about it on the website.

Yes, you can. Don't know what the corkage fee is, but you can certainly call and find out.

The Food Board is a wealth of knowledge for people looking to dine in southern LA. Look at the threads and the good posters will stick out.

The food board does rock! My bf would probably like for me to STOP reading it so I stop naming nice places to go eat.

A room at the Ritz is $129 right now... Other good places are cheaper, too. During this summer low season you can have a huge night in New Orleans for a song. The bar in the Ritz - the Library, is a good spot for a martini after dinner. As is the Columns Hotel if y'all head uptown (or do Columns first, then go downtown?). Personally, I think the Carousel bar is hugely overrated - or I've just been on nights when every tourist in the city descends upon that one bar.
Put Latil's Landing in your cap as an idea for next special occasion. It's in the Houma's House Plantation - in Darrow, La. but well worth the drive (from Hammond it might be a bit far). The Jaqumel Inn suggestion is money too.
At the Pelican Club try the drink they make with Cachaca - it's on their drink menu. It's a Brazilian type of rum (sort of) that I'm thinking about making in Louisiana with cane sugar.

Seafood Martini for App
The Filet + crab/shrimp cake for entree
creme brulee or bread pudding for dessert

If you don't drink at August, you can get out of there for just a hair over $100 with the $40 four-course thing.
As long as they don't screw it up, it should be a hell of a deal no matter what the four courses are.
They also will let you bring your own wine (no corkage fee).

Brock, get real. No one doesn't drink at NO's finest. Bad service is sure to follow.

Dude, we all drank when I was at August!
Do I need to be sloshed out of my mind when I go to Stella! for my birthday next month??
