I think the Japs should just capture them and force them to participate in one of their game shows. Best punishment going and I'd be sure to watch.

This whole thread makes me smile. I thought I was the only one that hated the HMS Hippie. I love when those losers fail.
Tora Tora Tora! Oh wait, what did that mean again.

I know I should be cheering for the hippies but I hate their tactics and I find myself hoping they sink.
The whalers are getting away with something that is illegal because of a loophole but the hippies need to find a better way of protesting this.

It happens in the opening when they show previews and I just keep hoping the next episode is when it happens. I'm looking forward to watching the hippies writhe around in agony on Friday after they bust out the LRAD.

its the fact that the steve irwin are doing stuff that does not cause injury and is considered non-violent by law... and that is why it is legal for them to do it... its the wording of the law that allows them to do what they do...
also the fact that the japs are trying to inflict physical harm and bodily injury to the steve irwin crew... its the same reason why riot poice can use tear case, taser guns, bean bags against the crowd, but obviously cant throw bricks or shot at the crowd
but im not sure about the specifics of the law, but like i said its the wording that allows the steve irwin to do what it does
I agree with ALL of this.

And yes, if I wasn't married, I would be on that boat in a heartbeat.

why is everybody against the steve irwin, and for the Japs who are blatantly breaking the law and illegally killing whales
It is my understanding that they are not really breakig the law at all. Theyare exploitng a loophole in the law but not doing anything illegal.

The Japanese aren't doing anything illegal. The Hippies are. There is a loophole in the law so they can hunt whales. Since there is a loophole then it's NOT illegal. To make it illegal, then get rid of the loophole.
On the other hand, the lying criminal hippies violate every international law concerning rules of the road that exists on all of their cruises. I could list them but it would be rather long. They break these rules willfully and with total disregard for safety. They should have their flag revoked.
I think this show is the most comedic show ever in the history of TV. I have never laughed so hard as I have at these bumbling, incompetent, moronic hippies. They are smug a-holes which makes it even more delicious when they fail miserably ever episode.

this is correct.
I'm an animal guy but i have to say that the people on the Steve Irwin seem about as dumb as post, except for the helicopter pilot.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

International Whaling Laws
quote:
In 1946, the International Whaling Convention (IWC) was established to oversee the management of the whaling industry worldwide. It was established in response to the rapid decline in the population of whales from whaling. In 1986, the IWC instituted an indefinite ban on commercial whale. This ban is still in effect, with certain exceptions. Countries such as Japan and Norway have not honored the ban.
There are no laws being broken. And let's say just for a second that a law was being broken, who would have the authority to carry out enforcement of that law? Certainly not citizens from another country.
Globally, whaling has been deemed unethical. But in the case of international territory who has jurisdiction? Nobody. Or rather, the guy with the most pull. Its all politics, and the Steve Irwin has no authority to be there whatsoever. The whalers put up with those losers so long as they are still making money. The idiots on board the Steve Irwin and yourself may think that they are protected legally because they are using non-violent methods, but the only real protection they have is the fact that they are in international waters and they are going up against citizens from another country. In actuality the only people truly acting illegally are the crew of the Steve Irwin, but since they are on the side of what is considered acceptable by the majority of global governments they are, to this point, being given a pass.
If these nuts tried pulling all of these stunts on an American company, they would quickly be rounded up and arrested, not to mention being sued for any mechanical damage they may have caused.
Personally, I'd like to see some people join up as crew members for the Steve Irwin, then throw a mutiny, tie up the crew, and go whaling themselves. Now THAT would be good television!

And to add to that, the Japanese vessels are technically not commercial whaling. They are collecting research samples. The collection of these samples kills the whales. So they make a profit off of the rest of the whale.
ETA: It might just be an excuse for whaling but it's not illegal.

International fishing laws are a joke. I like this show and agree its total fail. But something needs to be done to inforce international fishing laws that are in force a supposed to preserve these species:
Whales
Bluefin & Yellowfin Tunas
Blue Marlin (mostly Mexican waters)
Swordfish
Yet all are overfished once in open waters.

I say the same thing EVERY episode, the pilot is the only one who seems to know what's going on.
I think the captain knows what's going on as well, but he's just a turrible leader.

yep he should not be in charge, he should be under someone who can lead and then he can give advice.
I still laughed at the episode where they were in the boat trying to drop the line to mess up the propellers and they dropped it way to early. Almost like a Looney Toons cartoon.

Peter "The Hammer" Hammarstedt will find a way to get the crew through these tough times.
The captain is a complete jackass, it is hilarious how he bitches everyone around and nobody stands up against him.
