And this is where Matt's point that the voters don't get enough credit comes into play. With the exception of 2003, the only consequential polls are the last ones before the bowls. On these polls there are only a few consequential decisions (Who's #2 in the BCS, teams whose ranking determines a BCS bid). I believe the voters take these decisions very seriously and overall do a very good job.
