Its perfect timing for the economy too.. I cant imagine many companies are excited over this and will likely cut jobs to make it up. Popeyes is going to cost 10 dollars a person. WITH COUPON..

What? You mean those business owners, the board, CEOs, and stock holders aren't going to absorb the hit to their P&Ls?

He wasnt a Senator in 2006?? It was apart of Queen count's first 100 hours legislation when the Democrats too over the house. I attribute this to Queen count and not Obama even though he did vote for it though. Its more of a Democrat adjenda though. But yes Obama has something to do with it.

Had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, okra and tomatoes, and a roll....with tea for $6.00 at the State police Cafeteria today....the economy is in good shape....I can feel the change

Cheapest employee I have is around $21.00 hr. I don't think this is going to bother too many people and the ones that complain about it are pretty cheap anyway. Most fast food places are if not at this rate pretty close to it already.

Does it really matter if it goes up?
It causes rising prices, which costs the minimum wage employee more to live everywhere they spend money, so it's pretty much a wash when it gets down to it. Those aren't jobs intended to live on. What they need more than a minimum wage increase is job training. Let the HS kids work there, and get the adults into jobs that can pay bills and offer a future for them. This minimum wage crap is just a show. See, we care.

I haven't eaten fast food in over a year.. I don't think I would mind the 5% increase in prices.

You don't make minimum wage though, right? And that's who this is supposed to be impacting for the better, those who will be making minimum wage, and yet they will be spending more on everything so it's a wash for them in the end.

It is not a wash, but it will equilize back to where it was before. It always does.
Raw materials and non-labor factors are a significant portion of how much things cost. Only the labor portion of the costs will increase, thus the pay increase at the bottom is a higher percentage than the reactionary cost increase. Now, if you make $9 an hour and did not get a pay raise after the min wage increase, then your real purchasing power will probably drop by 5% or so (if not less).

Not when you figure in GPM. It will all go up incrementally in keeping with the same margins they operate on presently.

That won't happen, because you know their pay will keep up with the min wage increase at roughly the same distance between the two. And then what will that do to the minimum wage employee, but put the same distance between he and that next level employee, and as inflation takes root, they will all be at the same place they were before the increase, which is why the only way to really change things for those people in job training and upward mobility. Leave the minimum wage jobs to students. That's what they are intended for, not to support a family.
