I'm really just looking for a link to the thread of everyone's favorite 3 New Orleans bars. I couldn't find it with 'search.'

I'm coming to town Saturday and want to mix it up a little. Staying at the W and doing dinner at Pelican Club to start the night (first time at both).

I've never been to or heard of DBA, but it looks pretty sweet.

DBA is awesome. I always try to get people from out of town to go there and then hear some music at a few of the clubs in that area. So much better than Bourbon.

the paper had their best 50 bars in the city in the Lagniappe, i think it was last Sat or Sunday.

agreed with some, but they went overboard with the hipster type places.

Go check out the Frenchman area where DBA is. Best bars around.

Also in the FQ:
Molly's on the Market
Pirate's Alley
Arnaud's French 75

You aren't really shocked they didn't give high rankings to Jiggers, Club Legends, and Daiquiris on Vets, are you?

lol

pretty sure it was all N.O. places

though people(not myself) have fun at those places.

i dont see why they cornered the hipster genre and not the other places people like to go that may not suit someone who likes to hang out with people like that

Don't be mistaken, I'm not even arguing for the paper's rankings. Just that you can't really be shocked that they took the heavily weighted hipster type slant to the list.

Thanks, all. My friend who I usually go out with down there is from New Orleans (old Metairie), and still acts like a tourist when he goes out down there - F&M's is his only good call of the night - so I can't wait to branch out some. I'd like to see Tonique too, but if we can't make it that far away from the W I'll settle for Arnaud's 75.

Is that Republic's fault? It seems like they were the first successful nuveau-hipster place (that I recall).

Exactly. Hell they really didn't list any of the types of places that you would find the biggest segment of the city's (Orleans Parish, I mean) population hangs out.

The only really "black" bars featured, were those that would seem to be frequented by the hipster types (i.e., Mother-in-Law Lounge).

The list is for hipsters and tourists, pretty much exclusively.

Y.A., just curious, but what bars do you feel like they left off that list? I think they hit most of the best ones, order not withstanding. The only glaring misses I can think of are Tips and The Club.

In MY mind, the list is pretty much fine. The only real exception for me would be one place in my hood I really like, but it's just a neighborhood type joint.

However, there's places near my hood, and other places I've driven by, in other sketchy hoods, that are often PACKED on weekends that would never get written up in the Times Pic.

That's all I'm saying. It's defnitiely a certain demographic-specific listing.
