I agree. That's why if we had a playoff it shouldn't and couldn't be more than 4 teams.
That is called the +1 format, and is all we need to fix what is wrong with the BCS.

Honestly, 8 games wouldn't be enough to figure out who should play in the champ game.
Why not? Why wouldn’t the following not work?
Divide Div I into 8 big mega conferences of 14 teams each (8 x 14 = 112 teams). Further divide each conference into East and West or North and South divisions, whatever is applicable. Let the divisions play a championship game at the end of the regular season to determine the conference champions. Finally, let the final 8 conference champions play a seeded playoff to determine the national champion.
Of course, 8 rent a victory teams currently in Div I would have to be kicked out of Div I, but that’s okay since they didn’t belong in Div I in the first place.
With respect to the current bowl game system, let the remaining teams not in the playoffs that had successful seasons play in those bowls.
Hence, therefore with the above we would have the best of both worlds, a true national champion in lieu of a mythical national championship since it is decided strictly on the field and the current bowl system is retained.
Thus, for instance, some conferences like the SEC and the big 12 would have to add 2 more teams, some smaller conferences would have to be combined, and other conferences disbanded altogether to create a new one.

Well, for starters.....

What's wrong with that? The major conferences would just have to add a couple of teams.
Not to mention, that if we still have to use polls to determine the teams that play in a playoff, then for all intents and purposes it will still be a mythical championship.

the best playoff idea imo is the 8 team playoff. just take the top 8 teams as per BCS ranking, regardless of conference.u could have them use the rose, sugar, orange, and fiesta bowls as first round sites.

No goddamnit.
2006 was the year we beat the living frick out of Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. A Notre Dame team that Ohio State was probably 7 point better than.
2006, the season LSU beat Notre Dame by 27 in the Sugar Bowl is the same season Michigan beat Notre Dame by 26 at Notre Dame.

12 teams is way to many..
BCS is very close to having it right.. Although the little guy always gets screwed.. And that's not really the BCSs fault.. it's really the human voting component.. A Sportswriter in Oregon is never going to vote Boise state ahead of USC if the Championship is on the line..
So pretty much everything can stay the same.. ND can pussy out and not join a conference..
but you eliminate the biased human components from the BCS (the polls), you add a strength of schedule component and Voila..
Top 4 teams play.. If the non BCS conferences can manage to rack up enough quality wins then they're in.. and they deserve to be there.. it's not just a "Wild card" handout.. You don't have to add conference championship games.. it just adds another incredible win to your resume and lets you jump some close teams.. and if you don't add it then you fear BEING jumped..
The current BCS games rotate between having those top 4 and the championship games.. and the remaining two bcs bowls can take whomever they damn well please..
That's all you gotta do..

Here my idea.
We take all the 119 team in the FBS and have a ranking system which comes out about a month or two into the season. This poll will be the ulitmate factor of which teams go to the title game as the team ranked #1 and #2 in this poll at the end of the season will play in said game which will rotate between Pasadena, Miami, New Orleans, and GLendale. This poll will be a average of coaches votes, computer rankings, and other polls. If you feel a team which doesnt qualify for the Title game and should have, too bad your in the monority. For team A and B to qualify voters obviously felt they were they were more suited to plat in said game. Under the main title game conference will have ties to other BCS bowls. these bowl will be known as the Sugar Bowl which is played in New Orleans and the SEC champion gets a bid (unless it is playing for the Title in which case a team will recieve and at large bid. this hold true for all BCS bowls). The Orange Bowl will be played in Miami and the ACC and Big East Champion will play in this bowl. The Rose Bowl will be played in Pasadena and will shoecase the winner of the Pac 1 and the Small Ten. The Final Bowl Will be the Tostitos bowl and will feature the BIg 12 winner vs an at large bid team.

For you people that like polls, why do we keep score during the games? Wouldn't it just be better to have a panel of professional judges at each game (kinda like gymnastics and figure skating) that rate each team on a scale of 0-10 and then at the end of the year, the team with the highest average is the national champion? With the polls you're still using the same type of system except there is no way a pollster can watch all 50+ games that he is supposed to each weekend when he is doing his judging.
