He was a real American hero. God bless Shifty Powers.
I met a Navajo code talker a couple of years ago at the four corners. He had a Marine hat on and I asked him if he was one and he said yes. I bought a Buffalo nickel money clip from him that I still carry. I was honored to shake his hand. I had just heard an NPR story a few weeks earlier about them that said there were only about 400 still living.

Does it really matter if it's a true story about the guy meeting Shifty in the airport?
The whole point is that most of the country has it's priorities screwed up when they worship celebrities and have elaborate funerals for them (especially ones who were likely pedophiles) and ignore the deaths of the true heroes in our country.

I don't know if it "matters," but I'd like to know if it was all just bullshite.

That was a terrific story and a fantastic tribute to an American hero.
Well done!

Got this same text in an email last night and the text was signed by Brig Gen Chuck Yeager with an email address.
Now I am wondering about the authenticity of the whole thing.
eta: I did see thing snopes thread on it.

I don't know if anyone knew this but Eugene Roe, the cajun medic that the entire Battle of the Bulge episode is filmed around, lived and ran a construction company here in Baton Rouge until he died of cancer in 1998.
When I found this out after I saw BOB for the first time it just really hit me how this true American Hero lived here among us and we would have never known it if not for BOB.
to all those that fought for us in WWII.
