This was by far the best small town festival we have ever attended. THe focus was on food and music...not stupid amusement rides.

It was F*cking hot btw...no joke.

Is everyone's last name in Ville Platte Fontenot?

We came a little to late to sample the contest submissions, but we will be back next year.

The red beans were not good at all...I should not have gotten these, but the guy was nice.

The crawfish boudin balls were just okay...too much rice.

Now on to the good stuff...the corn and crab bisque from Bourgues (sp?) was the best I have ever had...the tasso/sausage piquante was excellent as well. The pounce sandwich was great as was the bread pudding with Rum Sauce from Pig Stand. Also, fromt he Pig Stand was my favorite dish of the day...pulled pork sandwich...this BBQ was as good a s any I have had anywhere. I suppose one could argue that LA does have good BBQ...just have our own style.

We then stop at Dearman's in BR for a good chocolate malt....skipped dinner and slept very soundly.

Glad my hometown could treat you well T.A., I've been hoping for years that they would move this festival to an earlier or later date in the year. I also wouldn't mind if they moved the location to somewhere more suited for welcoming out of towners

ETA: my last name isn't Fotenot, but I know plenty

I thought Dearman's was gone? Or did it move?

See my sandwich thread..

TA if you enjoy small town food fest I highly recommend next year in April you check out the:

Allons Manger Food Fest (thats french for Let's Eat)
Nothing big or fancy, no rides, no games, only one band stand and the whole fest based on eatting good food.

St. Jules Catholic Church, La. 1, Belle Rose, Just south of Donaldsonville.
The fest offers Cajun delicacies in the forms of crawfish, oysters, turtle, fish and shrimp, etouffee, sauce piquante and homemade sweets.

i've been up there for the festival once before myself and think it is really a little hidden louisiana treasure ... really had a good time and the food was great too ... really really nice people up there in ville platte, imo ..

Allons Manger Food Fest

We talked about it on this trip...we are doing it next year upon your advice...you stated the two best food fest were Smoked Meat and Allons Manger so we had to hit both....we had company in town this year on the weekend in April, but are definitely going next year.

The people were very nice...we did stick out like sore thumbs though. I even wore a t-shirt (which I rarely do) to fit in...

It may have been a case of everyone knowing everyone else except us...regardless, we had a great time and would have stayed longer, but for the heat (we stayed about 3 hours or so).

i actually have a strange midwestern accent for someone that grew up in BR .. when i am talking to people above the mason-dixon line on the phone, they refuse to believe i am from louisiana .. but i can fake a good cajun accent when i have to ..

Check out Wheelo's grocery in Ville Platte, on the Chataignier Highway for the best cracklins, anywhere..

Awesome to hear that Ville Platte is making a name for itself on TD. I heard there was some hot chick that sang the national anthem on Saturday morning and F-15 jets flew over.

Pretty cool that there is a festival to thank our veterans, eat great food, drink lots of beer, and listen to good music; all in one package. AND not put up with the carnival ride trash.
