i think we would have been #29 in total attendance for BASEBALL- #3 football. nuts

That is crazy. I can't believe Va tech has such a small attendance

This thread is dumb.
A team has at most 8 home football games, if your stadium seats 50k or less, you can sell out every game and have 400k attendance.

Only six home games, and their stadium only holds like 60 grr.

i know there are a lot more games, but considering some on this board say college baseball is not a major sport, i thought it was pretty impressive.
ole miss was #5(?) in baseball attendace last year and pulled in 155k
besides, if your football stadium only holds 50k, you suck

Lane Stadium seats 66,233 and they make some serious noise.
BTW, it could be said by other schools that if your stadium seats less than 100K then "you" suck.
And yes, comparing 5-6 times the number of home games in another sport is a nonsensical comparison.

Exactly. I appreciate comparisons but this one is just not relevant.

Virginia Tech averages 7 times more people at Football games than LSU does at Baseball games.
See how stupid it looks when you share meaningless information?

no one doubts that Va tech is a "major" football team.
There have been discussions about if college baseball is a major sport. I think the numbers show that -at lsu anyway- college baseball is a major sport.
(I dont have any numbers, but I'm sure ve tech football made more money than lsu baseball.)
Still, even though its apples vs oranges, i was supprised we had more fans at our baseball games than some "major college" football programs did.

College baseball is not a national sport. Get over it.

I think its a good point.
The thread wasn't about how many games are played or size of stadiums.
I think he was trying to show that we have more supporters for baseball than those major programs do for football purely based on attendance numbers.
If those other teams had the demand for more support in attendance, they would alter their stadiums accordingly as we have done in both sports in the recent past.

We have 9,000 baseball fans show up 42 times. It's basically the same fans each game. Explain how that is more support than 50-60K football fans showing up at a football game.

I don't think he was going to take these statistics and publish them in a thesis.
It's just an interesting piece of information.
Those programs are supposively power houses who have all won major championships.
So why aren't they packing more people in the stands for their limited 6 game seasons??? When we can consistently pack 9k+ throughout a much longer season in a non "major" sport.
Don't take everything so literal. It's apple and oranges but interesting none the less.

Lane Stadium is packed each and every game. Perhaps Miami and Ole Miss aren't so your point may be valid for those two schools. Virginia Tech shouldn't be in the discussion. They support their team as well as any school in the country.

I agree with you that their games are packed...and they can make noise....
My point was that b/c they are so packed, and have had alot of success...why haven't they expanded their stadium to accomodate more fans if the support is there?

That's a good question. I know it has been expanded in the past and I was a bit surprised that it doesn't hold more.

Same idiots think this is interesting that thought a lazer robot should replace umpires.A disturbing trend to this board.
