Mainieri said he wasn’t sure who would start against Arkansas right-hander Brett Eibner.
From the Advocate:
So who should start, and why?

Ochinko hit a huge three-run home run Saturday, but also struck out three times. Eibner is the kind of pitcher Landry has thrived against: a hard thrower who relies primarily on fastballs.

Ochinko... he's swinging the hot bat.

This is a very tough decision.

Better question, Hanover or Hellenni (sp)

I say we go with the exact same lineup that faced Eibner in the regular season. He was less than effective.
3.2 IP 6H 4R all earned and only 2k's.

According to www.nola.com, Landry is starting in LF with Schrimp playing 1B and Ochinco sitting

Landry because he thrives on guys who throw heat and he wasn't exactly cold during the Miss State series on into the SEC tournament.

Mitchell has torn up right handed pitchers.

Maybe we should bench Gibbs to make room for Ochinko, Landry, and Helinihi

Looks like it will be Landry (from NOLA.com):

quote:
LSU Coach Paul Mainieri will no doubt juggle the lineup today. Look for Leon Landry to play left field with Ryan Schimpf moving to first base. It has nothing to do with the fly ball Schimpf missed on Saturday. Arkansas has a right handed pitcher going and Mainieri wants to get another lefty hitter in the game.
quote:
Landry is a dead fastball hitter and the Hogs Brett Eibner throws a lot of those. It will give LSU more speed and better defense. Landry or Jared Mitchell could bat leadoff, though it will probably be Landry. Mainieri only bats Mitchell at the top of the order against righthanders AND when the opposing team doesn't have many lefties in the bullpen.
quote:
The reasoning is that Mainieri is less reluctant to sub Landry out for a right handed hitter if the foe brings in a lefty. If Mitchell is batting at the top, it gives LSU three consecutive lefty hittters with Ryan Schimpf and Blake Dean, an advantage for a lefty hurler coming in.

this makes no sense, because if landry bats leadoff, its still 3 consecutive lefties.
