Again, I will ask this question: Why is Jared Mitchell in the lineup? Also, why is he a 1st round draft choice? He may be fast in the outfield but he's TERRIBLE at the plate!

did you not listen to orel. he has all the "tools" to be great!
I get pissed with Mitchell every game. I dont get it either. he's tool cool in the field to use two hands, I think he swung his bat maybe twice the entire night and when he is on the base pads he gets stupid!
he fanned like 43 times or something they said.
We will see!

i don't know exact numbers... but if i remember tonight ...seeing he does have a ba of 300+ and an on base percentage of 400+... I am no baseball genius... but I would not call that terrible at the plate.

A guy with his speedy/savvy with a 400+ on base percentage is pretty good chances to get him around and at least in scoring position.

because the dude has power its just that he doesn't swing the damn bat. if you saw the shot he had at 1st when he swang the bat you would know what im taking about

If only the White Sox would have consulted dorianmode, they would have saved themselves a TON of money.

He was at bat four times tonight and got on base once; and that was because he WALKED! I don't think he intimidates any opposing pitchers.

his raw talent is well beyond anyone else on the team...and wasn't his batting average in the top 2-3 on the team?

He is a great athlete, and that can't be taught. The pros will take a great athlete that has only partially played baseball for the last few years over a "good college player" that has been concentrating on baseball his whole life. With 120 games each spring and summer the pros figure that they can teach Mitchell how to hit because he is a great talent. Lots of other players are good against college pitching, but just won't be good enough to hit the pro pitching because they don't have the talent.

Is a high college strikeout rate relatively fixable in the minors?

I think the 1st round pick is weighing his potential vs. his performance.

It's obvious he has struggled against lefties but great competitors don't stay down long. He should have his CWS moments.

JM seems a little disinterested at the plate for some reason.

he doesn't intimidate them when he is at the plate, but when he is on base he flat out fricks with them....I have seen a number of pitchers this year get so consumed with him that they hang a ball out over the plate for an extra base hit....

That's what my dad keeps asking-It's either walk or strike out looking. I do notice that Mitchell always takes the first pitch; maybe he just needs to be more agressive, swing before he gets into 0-2 or 1-2 situation. But I don't think he will sit any game, although I am sure folks think Landry should be playing. He is a first round pick because of Speed & potential. When he concentrates fully on baseball, & with coaches working with him, his bat will improve...
