just trying to see what LSU fans think about where the players/signees could go in the draft coming up this month.

These are my predictions

Mitchell: 1st
LeMahieu: 3rd-5th
Coleman: 8th-10th
Dean: 13th-15th
Schimpf: 15th-20th
Ochinko: 25th-30th

I'll say Schimpf in the top 10 rounds.

Close but I'm going to predict he'll go in the 'sandwich' round. Not really first, not really second round.

I just don't know where they can hide him defensively. For an outfielder, he has a great wide-receiver's arm.....

I agree, Coleman has shown the capacity to be either a starter or reliever, hits low 90's, and is durable, what's not to like.

Schimpf and LeMahieu could have good upside.

I still don't see what others do in JM. He's fast, but is clueless against left handed pitching and has a below average arm for an outfielder. Most weak armed or defensively challenged outfielders at the MLB level are in the lineup for the pop in their bat. I envision good AAA pitchers owning him, much less MLB top line starters.

Obviously not eligible, but I think Mahtook will prove to be the best MLB position player on the 2009 team.

I thought you said you were gonna predict LSU signees draft position? Is Colvin and Von Rosenberg not getting drafted in your estimation?

I honestly don't know why anyone would draft Ochinko, especially in the first 30 rounds

Player Round
JMitch 1-2
D.J. 3-5
Coleman 4-8
Schimpf 5-10 (This is a toss up since he has been in left field, but projects as a 2B. Will depend on if the scouts saw enough of him at 2B
Dean 11-15

You guys ready for the wild card shocker????
Buzzy as a pitcher 40-50 or as a free agent. (I have a hunch that some team is going to give him a flyer to give him a chance to pitch more and see what happens. (plus scouts love athletes who pitch)

As far as LSU recruits (not sure of all of them)

ZVR 2-5 (If he has declared that he is signable which is up for debate)
Colvin 4-10 (same situation as ZVR)

I think everyone else makes it to campus

Baseball America's draft preview has Colvin as the 15th rated pitcher in the country. He's going to be drafted in the top 2 rounds it looks like. Von Rosenburg is rated a little behind him, around the 25-30th best pitcher draft elgible, according to Baseball America.

I haven't seen them play and so I can't really predict where I think they'll go.

really? that's awesome and all, but if he gets drafted, I think he would do well to give it a shot in the minors, learn a bit more for a couple years, then come back as a coach, but what do I know, Mainieri does have a thing for young coaches

Didnt know that. FWIW, if he wants to be a coach, that professional playing experience on the resume looks pretty good.

It's easy to say you aren't going to play when you are still playing. Once it hits you that it's over, you start to re think it.

I think he will get a shot and spend a year or so in low a ball before continuing a coaching career

Those late rounds (40-50) are full of wild card guys. I think its likely that there is someone out there who will give him a thousand dollars to see him pitch more to see if there is something there. He's been pretty good against some solid hitters.

Dont be suprised if it happens

DJ moving to 2nd doesnt help his cause, but the kid has potential oozing out of his ears.

He will be drafted very high

+1. And I'm not really trying to knock him. Just being realistic

Don't forget that guys that get drafted that low or sign as free agents literally sign for a thousand dollars. Buzzy has pitched well against SEC hitters in front of scouts and to the best of my knowledge he is throwing around 88-90 with decent secondary stuff, plus he is an athlete.

You really dont think there is a team that would give him a thousand dollars to give him more of a look on the bump to see if he has potential. Not saying its a definite, but would it really suprise you if it happened?
