I saw it. Brought my little girl. She enjoyed it, but I didn't. IMO, this is my least favorite Pixar movie. By far. I mean, it wasn't terrible, but it was that great. There's a Toy Story 3 preview in it though.

Possible Spoiler

The majority of the movie is the old man pouting about his life and being an old bastard. The first 35 minutes was him wallowing in his own sorrow about losing his wife. The dogs were pretty funny as was the bird. I didn't like the kid either.

1.5 out of 5 stars. Pretty disappointed in this one.

Just like pretty much all Pixar stuff, it was "meh". Neato looking, with a couple of mild chuckles.

Of course, the little one liked it.

I thought it was great. But it wasn't that funny. The first reel is like watching Bambi.

Every Pixar movie starts out with 9 and 10 star ratings on IMDB then gradually drops over months.

Every movie ever made drops after several months on IMDB. That's the nature of fandom. That's how every rating goes.

I know every movie drops, but most of those movies don't start out in the top half of the top 250. I guess these movies seem much better immediately afterward than they do in retrospect.

No, its just that they are very highly rated movies. Since every movie drops, they start off in the 9's and settle in the 7's or 8's as a general rule, which, as a benchmark, an 8.0 puts you in the top 250.

I don't think there's anything to read into it. they trend like every other movie ever made's ratings.

I may check this one out on TBS or something. Because to be honest I really don't have much desire to watch a flick centered around a cranky old man and a weird looking fat kid. From the moment I saw the first preview for this movie, I thought it had serious potential to be Pixar's first major flop.

I like all of Pixar's other movies, but as previously stated I really don't care to see this one.

Just look at it on paper... Pixars other movies: Toys, bugs, fish, monsters, superhero's, cars, rats, and robots... then an old man and a fat kid.

One of these things is not like the other.

Pixar can afford to take chances and has with the last few movies. There was very little dialogue in Wall-E at all, and it moved at a snails pace (at least until the end). I know a lot of people didn't love Wall-E. This one looks like it could dissapoint a lot of people as well.

I like the fact that they don't just throw basic formulaic kids crap out there. They put something out there that is different and thought-provoking... and I for one like that.

My biggest problem was the 3D. It is obvious this movie wasn't intended to be a 3d movie when they made it, but added it at the last second to get everyone to spend a $1 more on the ticket.

Get used it it. They are making many 3-d movies at this point. Not because people want them but because they can charge up to $4 more per ticket.

But some movies were at least intended to be 3D. Lots of scenes of stuff flying right at the camera, that type of thing.

UP was not one of those. Just a cheap gimmick.

Critics gave this an A rating almost across the board.

Going to check it out this week.

I gotta say I loved it.

This movie wasn't drop dead amusing, but there were funny scenes and it definately grabbed your attention and grabbed your emotions.

It was as good as Wall-E.

I was not disappointed. Another great movie. Would have said 4 out of 5, or 8 out of 10.

Pete Docter (director) admitted this was the case in an interview on NPR. Said Pixar now has a 3-D team and they approached him and the other creators about 3/4 way through making the movie about cranking out a 3-D version. Docter said he had nothing to do with any of the 3-D animation. It was basically a boob job after the model had already been molded.
