I'm going for the first time tomorrow to take the brewery tour. Is the restaurant at the brew house the best place to get lunch, or is there a good northshore place I should try instead?

Eat at the Brew Pub at Abita. You will get a chance to drink a few beers that are ONLY offered at the brew pub.

We were turned off by the 30 minute wait at 3 p.m. at the Brew Pub so we went to Abita Springs Cafe instead. Great burgers and sweet potato fries and friendly people running the place.

IMO you made the right decision. I want to like the food at the brew pub but it just bad, not even mediocre.

True food isn't great, but the beer is.

+10000 I hate this place.

Camelia Cafe is the best food in Abita IMHO.

Unfortunately, this is not true anymore. The brewery and the Brew Pub are now separately owned.

To reiterate the other posters' thoughts, skip the Brew Pub for food, but it is a cool place to have a few beers. I always go to Abita BBQ a few minutes towards I-12 from the Brew Pub and have loved it every time, but that may be due to the fact that I always go after the brewery tour.

I thought they have been under seperate ownership for several years now?
They did use to serve some Abita that was not available anywhere else such as the Andygator and some of the experimental stuff, but now I think all of that can be found at the good beer houses as "select" and seasonal product.
