With suspensions after every tough play in any sport..hard foul....throwing at someone...what was the last great rivalry
(I think rivalry back in the day were great cause you could do hard shite without getting suspended fwiw...we'll never see a GREAT fighting rivalry again)

Mine.....Avs vs Redwings mid-late 90s

That was a vicious rivalry, had to be the hockey equivalent of Celtics/Pistons.

DUKE/UNC Mens basketball...consistently great on both sides, and only 8 miles apart. Tough to argue. IMO

Was it the Lemeiux hit on Maltby that broke his jaw or the Shannahan/Chelios extra shots and pokes at Roy that actually started the violent hate?

Lemieux's boarding hit on Kris Draper escalated it and Darren McCarty dealt with it accordingly...

Mike Vernon made Roy bleed in a fight later in the series.

Celtic vs. Rangers FTW

India vs. Pakistan Cricket

Both of these have historical reasons for the hate, not just location.

Youre right for some reason I had Maltby and Draper confused. Things had heated up earlier after Roy got traded from Montreal, but I cant remember what happend. Osgood wasnt the starter when the first battle happend, thought it was Vernon. Osgood replaced Vernon in and for the playoffs, then Vernon returned the next year.
