nine in the box can stop him
quote:True about the recieving (though his only reception was for 11 yards), but he did return kickoffs for almost 24 yards per kick.
he hasn't shown he can take over the game receiving or returning kicks like Faulk
Honestly, in a pickup game of guys around the neighborhood, it wouldn't matter. No team that isn't made up of at least college level football players would stand a chance against either of them. So my answer would be Faulk just because he is a much, MUCH cooler guy.

FWIW, I am not going by the "pickup game" standards. I'm going by who was a better college RB.
quote:And? That's not the question, so what's your point?
Faulk is the best ever at LSU.

WOW.
Cecil made Faulk look like a little boy those first few games. I won't argue KF's consistency and durability but if we're talking prime conditions and character issues aside(which is what I consider if it's a pick-up game) Cecil would easily be the best choice.
If the pick-up game was in early September of 1997, I'd laugh at anyone that took K-Faulk over Cecil.

Everyone always mentions the AU and MSU games when talking about Collins, did Faulk not play well against them. I thought so
Actually, in '97, Faulk didn't rush a down against either one. He was hurt. And Faulk never had a 200 yard game against Auburn. He was less than 100 the year before.
Face it...Collins was #1 that season until his injury at Nashville. And until he decided to become an apartment checker.

Look people, the question is PICKUP GAME. Not anything else. NFL, its FAULK and its not close.
But as to the question, its Collins and its not real close.
As to the moron saying kickoffs and punt returns, you apparently havent played many pickup games.

From an Arkansas fans standpoint, I'll take Faulk.

Yes he would have.
Miss State and Auburn would not agree with you. Miss State couldn't stop him when he had one shoe on. Auburn's secondary was scared to tackle him. He was going to be a SPECIAL back.
there is NO WAY you can PROVE that. justin vincent appeared to be the next all-time great, and things didn't work out for him. i'm not saying cecil wouldn't have been good, because i think he would have been, but kevin faulk actually put up the numbers year after year, so it should be a no brainer.

HESTER, STELTZ, FLYNN, MAUCK, HUNT, THERIOT, CUTRERA, CLEMENT, PRATER, HATCH, LEE, are all better than collins or faulk

....but Cecil was in another dimension as far as talent goes...he had the size, speed, break-away ability, toughness....kind of reminded me of Bo Jackson...ran like a run-away truck that defenders were almost afraid to get in the way of....had all the talent to become an All-Pro in the NFL...
jesus christ. Cecil Collins is like some mythological creature where we can just make up shite.
size? no, not really. He was only about 5'8" 205-210. he was not a big back, he a little below average.
Speed? very average. He ran a 4.5 in pre-draft workouts. Faulk was a little faster at 4.48.
break-away ability? he did have a great burst to got to the second level.
toughness? yes, but not the durability.
Collins came out like a cannonball playing with tons of emotion after waiting over a year for his chance and working out/practicing the whole time at LSU leading up to that one chance....but that emotion would have faded, and defenses adjusted. he looked great in his very limited time....but it was ONE FULL GAME!! anyone who thinks defenses would not have adjusted are nuts.
Faulk put up numbers for 4 years as the main focus of the opposing defense....and then grossly out performed the urban legend in the NFL in a YPC basis.

eltigre how can you say that emotion would have faded? Are you a prophet? Mel Kiper? You are totally missing the question. It is a pickup game, not a season.
How about in this pickup game you are the only one left between Collins or Faulk and the goal line. Which one would you rather have to try to tackle?

Collins 3.2 YPC & Faulk 3.4 YPC as NFL Rookies..
Pretty good article for people who don't know & want to know "What all the Damn Fuss was about" Sports Illustrated 1999:

b/c it did fade. He was uninspired the rest of his football career.

not missing it at all. I KNOW what i will get with Faulk. for one game with Collins will get an inspired bull, or a sluggish borderline retard? I want the sure thing.

Faulk of course, but i would rather try to tackle Collins than Jacob Hester in a head on collision...doesn't mean i am taking Hester over Collins for one game.

Now I know I am dealing with an idiot.
Everything you have said up to that was totally irrelevant. That is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. You are either a racist or retard, neither of which I need to talk with any longer.

quote:Maybe you're right, but his coach, Jimmy Johnson, who has been around football for a while, said, "He was the best running back I've ever seen." That's an extremely strong endorsement by a source who knows more about the subject than you or me.
in fairness Cecil had a few 100 yard+ games with the fish before getting busted.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
false.
collins never had a 100 yard game in the pros, and had a terrible yards per carry average in his 8 game career....3.2 yards per carry. Faulk on the other hand has averaged over 4 yards for over a decade. Collins also only got a terrible 5 yards per catch compared to 8 for Faulk.
Collins is THE most overrated athlete in LSU history.

If Kevin Faulk would have only played 4 games of D-1 college ball, do you think a NFL team would have used a draft pick on him?
NO, there would have been no mention of him.
But Collins was special. Even with all of his problems the Dolphins still took him.
That being said Kevin Faulk is a great football player, and one of the best ever at LSU. But that has nothing to do with this topic.

I think collins is still playing for burt reynolds on the longest yard

The issue here is not performance. Faulk massively out performed Cecil in college and in the Pros. The issue is "potential". Cecil had enormous potential but never lived up to his abilities or the expections.
Faulk took full advantage of his God given talent and Cecil peed his away.

pick up game cecil. but as far as comparing careers you really cant because of cecils legal trouble. he played hardly no college ball and still got in the pros for a season before he got busted again. but who knows what he could have done if he wasnt such an idiot and had four years of college experience
