SI ranks LSU #13 preseason

I have no problem with Florida being #1. Alabama is ranked too high based on the starters they lost and the fact they face VaTech first game of the season (L). The Big12 is overrated.

And what do BoiseState, Cincinatti and East Carolina have in common? They are ranked ahead of the Irish.

Im just going with the early prognostications... VaTech is ranked #5 and picked by some to play in the BCSCG. The game is on a neutral field. Alabama lost the majority of production from last season.

Not really. Staples is either ranking the teams where he thinks they are right now (as the title of the article suggests) or he could be putting forth his best guess of the pre-bowl pecking order.

If the former, VT doesn't matter. He's obviously impressed by the solid QB play Bama has gotten in the Spring.

If the latter, Bama could survive an opening loss to VT and close the regular season at 10. The winner of the West will likely be a one-loss team in conference, and Staples probably thinks that team will be Ole Miss. If Bama loses the West by a whisker (only loss to a 1-loss Ole Miss) and the Rebels get spanked by Florida, Bama'll actually probably be ranked higher than 10 after the SECCG.

It's not inconceivable that LSU loses only one SEC game and gets shut out of the SECCG via a tiebreaker.

The further we get into summer and then august practice, the further ole miss, TCU, Okie st, and Bosie st will drop. People will start to realize that the powerhouses such as LSU, Georgia, Alabama, and ohio st are serious contenders. While Ole miss, TCU, Okie st, and Bosie st will be good teams, depth and replacing departing players will be realized as promenent issues for these teams.

My top 15
1. Florida (Unreal talent comming back)
2. Texas (Hopefully they're defense improves)
3. Oklahoma (Would be 3rd, but they're replacing alot of the o-line)
4. USC (losing alot but tons of talent)
5. Ohio st. (pryor is gonna be a beast)
6. Vatech (Should be the best in the ACC.)
7. Alabama (Probably the best defense in the nation)
8. LSU (Tons of returning talent, defense cant be worse)
9. Okie st. (Great offense, no defense
10. Ole miss (Second best qb in the sec, but they lose some good d/o-linemen
11 Georgia (they recruit very well and will contend with Joe cox in every game.)
12. TCU (Should be a solid defense
13. Georgia Tech (lets see if someone besides the tigers can stop that offense.)
14. Boise st (They lose alot, but they have a good coach.)
15. Oregon (new head coach only return 5 defensive starters.)

I would pound my chest here, but the other two teams are OU and OSU. I can say with 100% honesty I would rather neither of them were anywhere near the top 25.

That is the difference in the Big 12 and SEC I suppose. We do not have the love-fest you all do.

It's highly unlikely. If they only have one loss, then that loss would be to Florida, which means that they would own all of the head-to-head tie-breakers.

Has Nutt ever had 2 good seasons in a row? NO
Ole Miss will not finish in the top ten next year. I bet my trailer on it.

I got the Tigers beating Florida but losing a game they shouldn't. Ole Miss is the most likely candidate.

Notre Dame-----> honestly wtf... how many terrible seasons does it take for SI to stop ranking them in the top 25?

not necessarily. Especially considering we have them at home and have to go to Ole Miss, Bama, and Georgia.
