not meant to flame at all just a thought...i was at the game last night and i was very impressed with the new infield and feel as though it should stay that way for now--2 double plays and everyone hit decent...in the bottom of the 8th i noticed mainieri benched shimpf and moved jared back to LF, landry to CF, and mahtook at RF...im thinking it had something to do with Shimpf's play in LF which was pretty pathetic IMO, so maybe we could leave the infield as it was last night and put mitchell in LF, mahtook in CF, and dean in RF and then DH shimpf bc his bat is very valuable...i never had much of a problem with him in the infield until the saturday Tenn game where he had 2 errors, but i also was very impressed with the new infield last night...just a thought and wanted to see what yall thought...josh336? the rest of the rant? what say you?

That ball popped down the left field line early in the game should have been caught for sure.

Not a bad idea. Dean is capable of playing RF. Maybe not an everyday thing, but possibly a 2ce a week type of lineup for sure.

So, basically the question is, Is Dean better in right than Shimpf in left? They both HAVE to be in the lineup one way or another.

it was 1 bad play at a position he hasn't played in over a year.

You honestly won't get much support from me with this position because he is probably my favorite player. I might be biased, but I think he is a better 2nd basemen than Lemahieu, and yeah, he had 1 bad game against Tennessee, but that was more of the exception to the rule. If someone should move to DH besides dean, I think it should be Lemahieu. Also, if they changed the outfield up, they would put Dean in LF, not RF, won't happen.

Why dont we put Dean in LF and Mitchel in RF? Seems to make more sense to have a lefty in RF than LF anyways.

Dean would be in left if he played in the field

i usually respect your opinion, but if you think that lemahieu should be moved out of the infield then i couldnt disagree more, as i said i never had a problem with shimpf in the infield, in fact i think he is an excellent 2nd baseman, but if mainieri sticks with this lineup which i suspect he will, then i feel like he should DH bc he is suspect in the outfield and looked lost in LF...thats all i was saying

I was at the game last night too and I wasn't all that excited about the changes IMO. I thoght that DJ did ok at second, but I don't feel that he was that comfortable making a few of those plays. Nola did average and I definitely think that moving around the outfield bit us in the arse. I don't know.....maybe it was just me.

Let's see. No errors and 3 double plays. We're last in the SEC with 17 DPs. I'm thinking it's just you.

are you kiddin me? he made several good plays and the play to end the game was phenominal.

--- to the guy who said something about lefties in the outfield and mentioned dean and mitchell ------ you do know they are both left handed right?

--- josh, dj not playing on the infield would be retarded.

for good?

Schimpf made 2 errors all last season. Dude is a good 2B.

he has played OF before, so if anything it would be to squeeze Nola into the lineup. Though i know PM is disappointed in the lack of double plays turned. But i think that is more along the lines of coincidence and not bad play

That's the impression I got listening to Mainieri on the tube last night. Nola at SS, DJ at 2nd, Schimpf to LF, Mahtook in CF, and Mitchell in RF. Landry is out, except for late game defensive substitution.

Said he wanted another righty in the lineup to give more balance.

Exactly. Another right handed hitter.

If that's the case, then put Schimpf back at 2B, Dean in LF, JMitch in RF, Mahtook in CF and Nola to DH.

Also, as one of the earlier posts stated, I agree that DJ looked uncomfortable as did Ryan.

while i do agree DJ looked a bit uncomfartable, he still made all the plays that he needed to and if this infield sticks, comfort will come with time...he is such a gifted infielder that i believe he will be fine

Schimpf played outfield his first year and is better than Dean. Nola is supposedly our best glove and Mainieri raves about him.

17 DPs in 30 games before last night. 3 last night. Coincidence? Only time will tell.
