I received this email from someone close to the situation:

I know there's a lot of talk on the message boards right now about Demetrius Byrd and a car accident. Demetrius was in a car accident this morning (Sunday morning)in Miami, but he's okay. They think a blow out is what caused the wreck - which happened while he was on his way to Church. His car is totaled and he had to be cut out of the vehicle, which is why people started speculating that he was seriously injured. He went to the hospital for observation, but what I'm being told by one of his advisors is that he suffered only bumps and bruises. He is obviously very lucky. I will keep you posted if I get any updates.

Chicken, did Kalunda tell you if other vehicles or other people were invloved? Anyone with him injured?

Well I'm seriously relieved. There was talk of a car accident and rumors get way out of hand. Never trust everything you hear on a message board. Especially if the source already states that it's 3rd hand info.
Thanks Chicken.
Thanks Chicken.

Hospital officials have confirmed to us that Byrd, 22, is a patient in the intensive care unit and is in stable condition, but weren’t allowed to give out any more information. The extent of Byrd’s injuries weren’t immediately known, but Miami Central coach Telly Lockett said that he’s been told Byrd is going to be okay.
that comes from PFT...but you never know... everyone has diff. sources.. just posting what ive read elsewhere....
At least it does say that he is going to be ok.

LSU'S Byrd In Stable Condition After Car Accident
Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 20, 2009, 9:20 a.m.
LSU wide receiver Demetrius Byrd, an NFL draft prospect, was in a car accident Sunday in Miami and is currently in stable condition at the intensive care unit of Jackson Memorial Center, according to the football coach at Miami Central High School, where Byrd attended.
Hospital officials have confirmed to us that Byrd, 22, is a patient in the intensive care unit and is in stable condition, but weren't allowed to give out any more information. The extent of Byrd's injuries weren't immediately known, but Miami Central coach Telly Lockett said that he's been told Byrd is going to be okay.
"He got in a bad accident, but he's in stable condition now," Miami Central coach Telly Lockett said in a telephone interview. "I coached against him when he was at Miami Central and I was at Miami Northwestern, and he's a really good guy, a very humble kid.
"He had a little rough start to his senior year with grade issues, but he went on to do some very good things after that. He went to junior college and the rest is history. He really thrived at LSU."
After transferring from Pearl River Community College (Miss.), Byrd caught 35 passes for 621 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. As an LSU senior, Byrd, who originally signed with Florida International out of high school, caught 37 passes for 513 yards and four touchdowns.
A 6", 196-pounder, Byrd ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds for NFL scouts this spring and has been projected as a second-day draft pick.
