The game became a blowout and he lost concentration. Closers are use to being in a close game, and when it becomes a blowout sometimes they lose concentration a little. That's all that happened today.

That's not what happened today. He ran out of gas. That was the opinion of Ronnie Rantz and Paul Mainieri as well.

That's not to say that Ott couldn't be groomed to be a starter. But, he hasn't been. And, that would limit him in a longer role than he has now. He's probably good for 3 innings on good rest.

looked to me like he was just throwing fastballs over the middle up the plate up 8 runs in the 9th, which you should do. of course i didnt have the luxury of a radar gun.

exactly, right now he can go 3 innings, I don't know why people here are up in arms because he got knocked around in 1 inning with a big lead and are now saying he can only be a closer. He proved against SC he can go 3 innings, and yes, if LSU needs him next year or in 2011, he'll be a starter.

OTT IS GREAT AT WHAT HE DOES, CLOSES! EVERYONE HAS A ROLE AND HE KNOWS HIS ROLE.

You do realize that Coleman was a closer too right?

Ott will be a starter possibly next year unless another closer doesn't step up. It all depends on what else the team has as starters and relievers.

It doesn't matter if he can or not, he can't be both middle relief and the closer. Mainieri wants him available all three days. Middle relief won't allow him to work all three days.

We need to find someone other than Ott in relief.

When Coleman came to LSU his first couple of years he was a starter. Although not a dominant one, he was a starter.

And? It depends on need. Next year and after if Ott needs to start he will. If no one steps up and can close, Ott may still be the closer.

In high school they don't have near as many games as a college season. Freshman tend to hit a wall. Just as college players do when they jump to a 162 game season
in each of his 3 years at as a starter in high school, he had one week off after the season, then started in legion ball for the whole summer. he played just as many games as a college season is every year, and he started one of every 3 games

I WAS QUESTIONING HIS EFFECTIVENESS IN LONG PERIODS OF TIME.

WHICH DOES HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH WHO HE FACES.

I think he proved you wrong, with how long and often the kid pitched effectively in high school.

Effectively vs 9-4A Holy Cross and Effectively vs SEC hitting is very much different.

Just because you are effective in High School DOESNT MEAN you will be effective at the highest level of baseball, the SEC.
