I have a large garden this year, just put in this weekend.

To keep the black birds and crows out I have heard of human hair around the garden. This has never worked. The fake Owl's you can buy in the store don't work. I am going to try making a scarecrow, any other suggestions?

Cinnamon will keep ants out. I was looking a few years back and googled how to get rid of ants. It popped up a page for valuable plants. Well I personally thought my tomatoes were valuable, but this was a pot growing site. I tried it and they don't like it. They left my tomatoes immediately. And it's better than pesticides

not to hijack the thread, but i just heard on the radio that if you have an ant mound along the house, to leave it alone as it can wipe out an entire termite population in no time.

I just planted this weekend as well, and would like to know what are the preferred plant foods that you use. I've always used the granular miracle gro, but thought about going with the new liqui feed.....anyone use anything different?

Birds usually bother fruit trees. What are you planting that they like so much?

Get a real dog. When I had a black lab we had no squirrels. She would climb 10 feet up the oak trees trying to kill them. When she died and I got a golden retriever, the new dog not only doesn't bother the squirrels, she goes out and serves them pecans.

Do people really spend $50 or more on things like this?

I bought some bird netting 10-15 years ago and it has served me well.

Only problem I ever had was with my tomato's.

Last year I didn't even cover them, I think I have the birds trained now...

I will report back

bird netting would aslo end the insect and worm problem most likely.

It may discourage the moths/butterflies that lay the eggs to be caterpillars.

Slug trap = open topped cans buried flush with ground with a few inches of beer in them. Slugs go in and never come out. I think they're waiting for more beer.
