Per Matt Muscona on Buddy Songy's show today. He said CHS just released 2009 schedule (not posted on school website) and a game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 (an LSU open date) in Pensacola, FL. I assume a Saturday game is arranged to help with travel time.

I did not catch all details, but thought I heard a reference to the Pensacola team being a defending state champ.

Anyone have any other info on this? Which Pensacola team? What FL classification? Possibly on ESPN2 or ESPNU?

From what i've heard, this Pensacola team was ranked 6th in Florida and was ranked in the top 100 nationally by rivals. Catholic had a down year last season, but they are still extremely young. Are they suppose to be amazing this season?

09 senior class was very young - but they return a good QB (Jr. next year) with a strong arm and a few good WR's. Brad Nelson is listed in Dandy Don's Top 50 (for what that's worth). Also moving a few skill guys from defense to offense.

CHS is expected to be better next year, but not great. They blew their chance in '07 when they lost to Acadiana because they didn't have a kicker.

That's got to be an expensive trip - hotel for 100+ member squad for a night and meals, which makes me wonder if it was put together by sponsors or TV.

We played Pensacola High School my Junior year. I believe they are 5A, or the FL equivalent.

Maybe these guys? Pensacola CHS has a good squad but they're only 2A.

Supposedly Catholic will play Pine Forest. I don't know what classification or anything about them.

Here is school link. Based on competition, they must be a bigger school - played Escambia and Pace.

When referring to any other school named "Catholic High School" other than the one located on Hearthstone in Baton Rouge one must include the location (i.e. Catholic High - New Iberia). If speaking about Catholic High it is not needed to say (BR) behind it. We already know who you are talking about.

So Godzilla, since you're from BR, then Catholic High needs to be treated like 'THE' Ohio State University and no respect given to anyone else who goes to Catholic High - NEW IBERIA or Catholic High - POINTE COUPEE.

As a Bear, I have my fears for them..

Just ask Donnie Jarreau or some of the Belaire guys from around 1982, how well they did on their trip to Escambia Bay to play Emmitt Smith and Company..not pretty.

It is no disrespect. Just ask google. type in catholic high school. Select "I'm feeling lucky". Guess who.

As an actual CHS student, this is news to me. Take that as you will. >_>

FWIW, the team lost a lot of experience from the previous year -- had two QBs sign on collegiate teams and started a sophomore who's improved rapidly but took his lumps last season, for instance -- but there are quite a few quality players returning that started their junior seasons.

I'm not predicting anything, but...yeah, news to me.

I know it's the 7th week of the season, the team they are playing made it to the state semi's last season.
