If you listen to people close to the situation (not idiot bloggers from the Northeast or talking heads like Mel Kiper, Jr.) it's seems to me like our top 2 options are either Jenkins (CB/FS) or Matthews (OLB).

I doubt we pass on Jenkins if he's at 14, but Matthews has the pass-rushing skill set that could contribute immediately for GW and his new scheme. Needless to say, we must get to the QB better next year.

If you had to choose either @ 14, what's the pick?

Jenkins, Matthews was a one year wonder and I don't like first round picks being used on one year wonders, like Robert Meachem

Yeah 'those people' are in the know! As much as I think Mel is on crack a lot of the times, he's one of the best at predicting the draft ( #9 ) to be exact.

Doesn't he have us picking Wells in round 1?

That isn't going to happen... we simply don't have an offense that runs enough.

Neither.

Matthews is a one year wonder.

Jenkins overrated as hell. Not only is he slow but he has terrible hips. FS might make sense but I don't want a prospect that will start 3 years from now, its too much of a gamble anyway. We need someone to start and make a impact now. Drew Brees isn't getting any younger, hes in his prime. We don't need project players.

I agree. I wouldn't mind trading down for Matthews, but not @ 14.

FWIW, we are sending the house to USC's pro-day. Saints head to LA

Exactly why we need someone like Wells to help establish some type of running game.

Again people want to take a RB to run 90-100 plays a year, which is absurd.

FWIW Matthews=Roids

I believe that was Cushing, but I guess Matthews wouldn't surprise me either

Know what the frick you're talking about before you post shite. Matthews came into USC at 210, not 160. He now weighs 240. 30 pounds in 4 years aint hard to do and doesn't justify "roids".

Now, Cushings up and down size in record time? Roids.

You can't hold it against Matthews for having just one good year, USC had some stacked talent ahead of him.

We ran the ball almost 400 times last year. I think we should move Bush to mainly WR and we coulld use PT and Wells on those 400 attempts. I would like to see that go up because I think we should have more of a running game to control the clock even more.

since when does getting like 4.5 sacks in the pac-10 make you a great pass rusher?

More like 350 when you take QB scrambles, WR reverses, and FB carries.

but we won't

Again if you give all of Deuce's carries to Wells(or Moreno) then gave him a third of Bush's carries then you still wind up with him only getting 130 atts.

Which isn't enough to justify a first round selection.

If we want to improve the run game take Oher or Smith.
