You have to be totally clueless to take Golic seriously on any topic.

I'm going to have to agree. Not that I don't appreciate non-alum support, but I would say being a graduate makes you much more part of the school than someone who just likes a good sports program.

How about this, guys?

Went to LSU for 2-1/2 years......father suffered spinal cord injury (now a quadreplegic). I am the eldest of 5 children. I had to drop out of LSU, spent a year in hospitals helping my dad, and helping my mom raise 4 younger children, including a youngest handicapped sibling. Once my father got well enough for me to do so, I re-enrolled at Centenary College in my hometown so I could continue to assist my father and mother, and graduated 2 years later.

I have regularly attended LSU games over the years, and stay connected to all my old frat brothers and other friends from LSU. Although I've worked and resided in Houston and OKC for almost 25 years now, my love for LA and LSU remains strong. I am a strong combatant of "OU Sooner fever" in Okieland, and wear my purple and gold proudly on my auto and my sports gear.

Do I fit in? Am I a "we" or a "they"??

With that kind of logic, you can't be a saints fan unless you live in new orleans. He's one to talk because Notre Dame probably has one of the biggest non alumni followings in the country

say "we" only if you are willing to say "we" when your team sucks for 3 or 4 years, AND you cant say "we" if you try to say it about more than one team. i.e a friend of mine likes the Braves AND the Astros. I love the Braves and nobody else. When he says "we" about the Braves I call him out

I was an LSU fan when Tommy Hodson was flingin passes when I was a little kid. I usually say LSU when i referto them. I buy the gear to wear on game day. When I was in NC for 5 years I watched religiously. Any alumni can be just as big as a bandwagoner as a non alumnist. LSU has worked very hard to be the only state funded school you associate with when you think of LSU. I identify them as my favorite sports program. I understand the alumnist feeling more connected to them and thats cool but don't try and down play the non alumnist's role in the program. Most kids grow up watching LSU, are they not as big a fans because they haven't had the ability to go to LSU yet. It sounds stupid but so does trying to tell a guy that he can't say we if he didn't go to the school. The academic center, the stadium, assembly center, etc. etc. is funded by every tax payer in LA. Its Louisiana's fotball team and everyone should take pride in that.

paying for tickets and TAF gives me the right to say "we". Just because I didn't go to LSU doesn't mean I can't claim it's sports program. My money goes to bettering the school and facilities. I would have loved to have went to LSU but a real career sounded better at the time, not my fault.

But if I'm that exact same scenario, but go to a different college, I can't say "we", but if I just wouldn't have gone to college, I'd be allowed to?

My criteria were more in the vein of an automatic in. For example, I considered including members of the permanent faculty and staff, but they don't get an automatic "We" from me, because many of them have divided, or outright opposing loyalties. As a general rule, they can use "We", while they hold a permanent position on the faculty or staff, but it's tied to that position. When the relationship with the university ends, I put them all back in the "case-by-case" category.

I presume that you would not fit my criteria, because you could have chosen to attend LSU, and instead chose elsewhere. Much like my son, I may welcome your support, but exclude you from the Purple and Gold "We".

Sorry, we've got to have standards....

I think of all true tiger fans as being like family. I say "WE"

Here's my litmus test: When LSU plays Centenary in basketball or baseball, which team do you support? If the answer is "LSU", unequivocally, I think you're in the "We".

Hey, I'm tough but I'm fair...

The only thing that would make this thread more retarded is if someone started a debate about JJ vs. Marcus Randall

Thank you. As long as the decals on my cars and TAF card say "LSU TAF" and "Tiger Athletic Foundation" on them I'll say "we". Since I specifically donated money towards certain projects from my checking account through autodraft each month for Tiger Stadium's expansion, renovation of PMAC, Mike's New Habitat and various other projects concerning LSU sports..... I'll say "we" renovated the PMAC, "We" expanded Tiger Stadium, "we" built Mike a new home, etc.

Since my tax dollars helped fund any number of LSU grad's educations, then if I want to say "we", I'll say "we". Otherwise give me my money back.

If a fan is truly passionate about LSU or the Saints or whomever, it's totally okay to say "we" because usually when it's said, it's meant....unless using it to try to get laid, but that's okay as well.

Now, the one thing I don't like is when a non-alumnus tries to tell me what I can or cannot say about LSU when they never even attended one fricking class or paid one dollar on its education. I take that personally. In that case, said non-fricking-graduate can suck my arse.

Source: Mike Golic on Mike and Mike in the morning

quote:

he says that you can use "we" if you say that "we won" and "we lost" when it pertains to YOUR ALMA MATER

he also says that you cannot say "we" when it comes to a pro sports team

what say you?

That's all very well and good. But, can you say we when you tump over a porty potty and set it on fire with Georgia fans inside of it?

However I do have a question to all the non-alumns ....

What qualifies you to say you are a part of LSU?

Because maybe from the time i got a job and a car, I think I missed 1 home game in 5 years, driving 2.5 hours every Saturday.

Or the THOUSANDS of dollars I've spent on tickets and merchandise. Not to mention, flying from Florida to Louisiana for a game once a year or so.

Plus, I haven't missed watching a game in real time, whether it be in Tiger Stadium or on TV, in, I can't tell you how long. It's up over 10 years, that is for sure.

I didn't get a matching scholarspip from LSU like I did to another state school. It's the ONLY school I ever even thought about going to as a kid. I only applied to 1 other school in the off chance that I didn't get the schollie to LSU. I NEVER once held it against LSU or was mad or anything. Just because a person didn't attend LSU, doesn't mean they cant feel like a part of the entire university, not just athletics.

But because you and others went to class at LSU, to try and claim you can use the term "we" and I can't is fricking laughable.

I know there are diehards, but I guarantee I'm more of a diehard LSU fan than most of the students there right now.
