Try some of the Viet super market around town or you prefer something like fruit mix with durian in it?

Rama's has a durian ice cream. Not sure if they make it themselves or not. If so they could probably sell you the fruit.

Vinh Phat on Florida (past Sherwood on the left) used to have it sometimes.

Tastes nasty, BTW.

Excellent. I might stop by to see if they have any. How much do they run?

Not sure--my dad used to get them. I think they may be frozen though (in order to ship them). And I have no idea how to cut it.

Tip: Cut it outside or your house will reek!

In honesty, I don't care for the taste. My husband is telling me he remembers it being good though, once you get past the smell. It's kind of like a rich melon custardy flavor. Worth trying at least once.

I think the frozen durian cost about $10 but if this is your first time you can buy the one that already peel in a lil container. It's alot of works trying to get the fruit open. Some people put the durian in a blender with some ice and put cut up jack fruit, loogan, and water coconut in it.

Success. I have a durian. It's a whole frozen one. I'm letting it thaw. I'll report back later.

We'll, I can scratch that one off of my list to try. It didn't smell that bad and it wasn't that nasty. It wasn't good, but it wasn't bad. Kind of cross between mushy banana and mild onion.

Zimmern's kryptonite! I would like to try it, but i would have to agree. Anything that needs gloves and an x-acto knife to open is not worth it!

I once drove my family from Houston with about fifty of those things in the back and WOW it was pungent.

Wifey buys it at Vinh Phat.

You can get it at Hong Kong Market,Vinh Phat, or LE's market they all locate on Florida Blvd. Like i said, ask for the one that already peel in the container if you want no mess. If u want you can get the whole one just for the experience.
