My aunt has season football tickets, and she doesn't want them anymore. She is going to sell them to me, and we want to transfer them into my name so I can get the TAF points. Can we do this?

Nope. Not unless she dies and the tickets are willed to you.

Unless they changed the rules, then even this is not allowed. Tickets may only be transferred to the surviving spouse or child, not to any other family members. When my uncle died, my aunt wanted to transfer their tickets to my mom (her sister), but LSU said no. My aunt and uncle have no kids, so when she dies, the tickets go back to LSU.

Can't your mom just keep paying the tickets? I don't think LSU cares whose name is on the check.

Yep. That's what I was told. I have 3 sets of tickets and wanted to transfer a pair to one of my brothers, but I was told the transfer could only be made to a spouse or children and even then, not just at any time (i.e., may take a death or divorce).

Thanks for the info. This is crazy though. We called the ticket office and asked about transfering names for both basketball and football season tickets and they said all we need was a notarized document stating that you wanted to transfer them into whoever's name. Then my aunt called just to double check everything and they said we couldn't do it because it's not immediate family. HMMMMMM...and from what I'm seeing from ya'll her tickets would go back in the pool when she dies because she doesn't have any children or spouse.

We thought about doing that. However, the check has to be from the "donor of record", meaning that when my aunt dies, my mom would have to forge her signature.

There was limited time a few years ago when LSU allowed season ticket holders to transfer their tickets to non-immediate family. My uncle forgot to do it in time. LSU may allow it again sometime in the future, but nobody knows if and when.

Yeah it just sucks because if she keeps the tickets and I give her the money for them...the TAF points go to her name instead of my name. We are trying to upgrade our basketball tickets and they said if we have TAF then we'll get a higher priority.

Transferring tickets at all is BS, IMO. It allows people who haven't done anything for LSU or even attended the university to be grandfathered into getting great tickets. No tickets should be transferable no matter what the situation. If you want tickets, you have to start at the bottom like everyone else.

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. Season ticket holders should be able to transfer their tickets to any family member they so choose. My aunt and uncle have had their tickets for over 40 years, long before TAF even existed. They both have degrees from LSU and have supported the university with their tax dollars and through several donations. They've earned the right to pass their football tickets along to whomever the hell they please.

IMO that isn't a right, it is a privilege and isn't fair to those dealing with TAF now.

I'm sorry to break it to you, but TAF practices aren't fair. Not as long as johnny-come-lately bandwagon fans with deep pockets can donate an assload of cash and pass up long-time season ticket holders on the priority point list.

Not really breaking news, but it has to start somewhere. I understand why you believe what you do, but try to put yourself in someone else's shoes who is trying to get season tickets. It's disgusting when someone gets willed 8 tickets and then just scalps them all to make a little extra cash.

I totally agree with you on this, but it's still gonna happen even if LSU doesn't let people transfer tickets. What's to stop the people who get new season tickets from scalping theirs? One thing that kills me is when LSU "fans" sell their tickets to opposing fans, like what happened at the Bama and Ole Miss games last season. I think it sucks, but its their tickets and there isn't really anything LSU can do to stop it.

Yeah, unfortunately there aren't many things they can do that would still be fair to all parties.

If that person who is trying to get season tickets has been going to football games for decades, using the same tickets their entire life, the far more disgusting thing would be for them to be unable to get tickets at all because their parent can't will them to him and there aren't new tickets available. Why should a family that has been using and keeping tickets for 70+ years be suddenly out on their arse? Because the TAF knows they can squeeze more bucks out of a "new" ticketholder who will pay even more extra to get off the waiting list and into the stadium.

If you think "fair" is about the TAF amassing as much money as possible to the exclusion of all other concerns, then yeah, it's a good system. Some people just don't feel that way.
