Do we stand a chance against Butler??????

How do we stop their patient half court game? Do we out-patient them?

That is one thing that actually could beat us is their slow style. It can really get a team frustrated and cause them to be impatient and make stupid mistakes.

Of course we do. But we do have to play smarter offensively than we have the last 4 games.
I don't think we need to hold it, but take good shots in the rhythmn of the offense.
Also, they do like to zone some and if so, with their size we should be able to do some damage with offensive rebounding.

Seems like Trent would drill this in their heads.....but I guess hearing it and dealing with it are two different things.........I really hope we take it to them and push the pace.

In terms of patience, they play a similar style to Washington State, just with more talent, despite their youth.
We will have to play better than we did against Wazzu to win this one. But this team has come a long way since then. I hold out hope, but our players have to resist the temptation to try to do too much.

Actually, Butler rarely plays zone. Although Butler does help and sag a lot, so it can kind of look like a zone if you're not watching closely.
Rebounding with Butler has always been a problem, but it has gotten better. I think Butler actually outrebounded the opposing team for the first time in forever this year.
If LSU can stay patient enough to work for a good shot instead of jacking a bad shot in the first 15 seconds of the shot clock, it's a coin-flip game, maybe even 60-40 LSU. But if LSU gets frustrated, and Butler makes a few threes, everything starts compounding and suddenly you're down 15 before you know it.

Butler's help-side is on steroids. They always play help side, no matter the situation. They can't stand giving up easy buckets, and it's a great defensive philosophy.
LSU will have to shoot it well from the perimeter to lure those defenders out a bit.
I agree with the previous post. It can mess with your eyes and look like a matchup zone.

Yea I agree, they need to remain patient and have expectations that this is going to be a high scoring game and that scoring in the 50s and 60s is fine. And if they do this hopefully they won't panic and become overanxious and start throwing up quick 3-pointers.

I am sure Coach Johnson will have a solid gameplan. FWIW, what I would do is pressure them the whole game, throw in a lot of full-court presses ... in other words, don't let them get comfortable. Why sit back and let them settle into their comfortable half-court game? If we do that we're liable to lose.

Only reason I don't like this, is that we are not a very deep team, and that can suck the energy out of our team. And if we win this game we need to be a full strength for the game against UNC.
But if this was the regular season I would totally agree with this strategy. I just think it would take to much energy out of us. So maybe they can press the second half if they struggle with the tempo of the first half.

No way, slow style will go in LSU favor, Defense is outstanding in this kind of play. Let them try. Turnovers will be the death of them.

I think the benefits of disrupting them outweigh these two issues, especially the second one.

Do YOUR homework - Butler has 0 seniors. Sometimes it can lead to problems in the tournament, and sometimes it can actually help. There's no pressure on them, so they should be able to relax and play hard.

It really just matters how they gel. Experience is usually overrated.

The polar opposite of LSU/Trent's defensive philosiphy.
I'm actually more of a proponent of help man and while I understand different philosophies I think LSU's personnel this year is more geared toward help in that we seem to have trouble guarding folks off the dribble and CJ's obvious defeciencies.

Patient? This plays right in to our hands.
LSU stands around in half-court and wins 38-23 and goes to UNC game well rested.
