We were an 11 seed in 1986 and therefore the first 11 seed to make the Final Four.

Thats right, I was thinking #9 seed. I knew it was the 96 season, but just had wrong seed.

Don't just come here and act like a smart arse (or dumb arse), post something useful!!!

Give us "Hot Carl's" definition of moment, or your idea of the defining moment in LSU sports.

not trying to start a fight, but I believe you only have 4 "moments" in your 13 listed. What you've started is a different thread than what your title suggests. It's a fine topic, the title is just a little misleading.

I think a moment can be anything from one pitch (W Morris), to a game (97 FLA), to a season ('58), or even a feat (12 track & field NC's).

1. 2 football NC's in four years

2. 5 baseball NC's in ten years

3. 12 consecutive Track & Field NC's
These aren't "moments", they are multiple titles. You would have to pick one of them in order for it to be a 'moment'. That said, the SECCG victory over Tennessee in 2001 was for me the defining moment in LSU sports history, the moment that the football program officially turned the corner, became less regionalized, and was considered a true contender for titles (SEC and National) on a regular basis.

A moment is a singular event in time, not a protracted time span containing multiple events.

From dictionary.com
quote:

MOMENT: 1. an indefinitely short period of time; instant: I'll be with you in a moment. 2. the present time or any other particular time (usually prec. by the): He is busy at the moment. 3. a definite period or stage, as in a course of events; juncture: at this moment in history.

I think of moment as defined by #1, short period of time. So for me, I would say the "Bluegrass Miracle".

Any one of the big plays made against Okahoma in the Sugar Bowl:
Webster's int....defense
Skyler's TD...let OU know they were in for a fight
Spears' TD...more defense, nuff said.
Turner's sack to put the game away...
...take your pick. The most important moments and/or even in LSU history IMO.

the 1994 recruiting class turned the football program around, but the best moment I saw in person was Matt Mauck coming in for an injured Rohan and running all over the Vols in the SECCG. So many wasted Orange roses after that game.

The best LSU moment as far as a game-winning play has to be one of these 5:
1. Billy Cannon halfback pass TD to win 1958 National Championship
2. Billy Cannon's punt return TD which set up LSU's only Heisman winner
3. Warren Morris' walk-off shot to win the CWS over Miami
4. Jack Hunt( ) catching a Hail Mary pass later to be named the bluegrass miracle
5. Darrell Mitchell's 3pter against TAMU to advance LSU to the sweet sixteen in 2006

Those are IMO the biggest single plays in LSU history. It can be argued that 4 and 5 aren't that meaningful as neither team won a 'ship but, they were awesome.

To me it was the victory over Oklahoma for the NC. That was our return to the top of the football world. You must realize, that season, that Oklahoma was the greatest college football team ever, and we beat them. We didn't beat them bad on the scoreboard, but anyone that watched that game would tell you we beat them bad on the field. We totally dominated the line of scrimage in that game.

For me...

Skylar Green's catch to seal the deal against Georgia. That moment put LSU football (which is king in college sports) back in the lime light of college football, and hopefully proves to be the moment that put our football team on track for many years to come.

That game coulda easily been 35-0. LSU missed two TD opportunities with Mack's fumble on the goal line and Skyler getting inside the 5 for 1st & goal where Gaudet missed a FG. OU's 1st TD came after LSU turnover.....

...."The greatest offense in college football history" (at the time...until this year's OU team), had 67 yrds of offense at the end of the 3rd quarter. Total domination by the defense. I still watch that game just to watch the defense.
