Whether you are for or against the War, this is a movie that needs to be seen by all. There is nothing political about it, it just follows the journey home of one of our fallen heroes. If you don't shed a tear, I am not sure you have a soul.
Synopsis below:
In April 2004, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Strobl, USMC, came across the name of 19-year-old Lance Corporal Chance Phelps, a young Marine who had been killed by hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Strobl, a Desert Storm veteran with 17 years of military service, requested that he be assigned for military escort duty to accompany Chance's remains to his family in Dubois, Wyo.
Witnessing the spontaneous outpouring of support and respect for the fallen Marine - from the groundskeepers he passed along the road to the cargo handlers at the airport - Strobl was moved to capture the experience in his personal journal. His first-person account, which began as an official trip report, gives an insight into the military's policy of providing a uniformed escort for all casualties. The story became an Internet phenomenon when it was widely circulated throughout the military community and eventually reached the mainstream media.
'Taking Chance' chronicles one of the silent, virtually unseen journeys that takes place every day across the country, bearing witness to the fallen and all those who, literally and figuratively, carry them home. A uniquely non-political film about the war in Iraq, the film pays tribute to all of the men and women

Since you know my past, I can tell you that it kind of sent me into a tail spin for a bit. A plan to rewatch it when I settle down.

Sam, I watched this the first night it was on and was very moved by it. I posted about it on here, but there weren't a lot of responses.
It is a must see movie regardless of one's position on the war.
I can tell you that you were in my thoughts that night.

bump.
I just watched this last night. Powerful stuff. I don't get emotional with movies, but in all honesty, I'm not sure you have a heart if you feel no emotions whatsoever with this one.

You can find the journal online. Since I lost a fiance in Desert Storm it was very hard to watch. I plan to watch it again soon though.

An amazing film. One of the best I have seen. I think the thing that impressed me the most was that it had absolutley not political theme to it at all. Highly recommended. Shed several tears.

What was your favorite scene? I have watched it many times but Iam torn by....
1.The marines standing in the pouring rain and saluting the coffins as they were unloaded at Dover.
2. Kevin Bacon sleeping the airport hanger.

A movie like this made me proud to be an American. I want to thank every vet that has fought to defend our country and the ideals we stand for . God bless men like Chance Phelps .

All of the above and also when the cars made the convey. All of it was very touching and gives me faith that there are still many people out there that respect our military.
