nice triplett update:

The Saints slowed down their pace on the third day of free agency Sunday, not signing any players, new or old. But they're not done shopping.

They made a contract offer to free agent cornerback Ron Bartell, according to a league source, and they are evaluating at least two free agent safeties, Gerald Sensabaugh and Darren Sharper.

Sensabaugh continued his visit with the Saints on Sunday. There was no word on whether he left with or without an offer. Sharper is scheduled to visit with the Saints today, according to a league source.

Bartell, 27, is mulling offers from at least two teams -- the Saints and his former team, the St. Louis Rams. The four-year veteran likely won't come cheap. He is rated as one of the top up-and-coming young cornerbacks on the free agent market.

The 6-foot-1, 209-pounder has been a starter for the past two years in St. Louis, and after some bouts with inconsistency, he had a breakout season in 2008. He had an NFC West-low 60.2 passer rating on passes thrown his way, and he finished with a flurry, snagging three interceptions, forcing two fumbles and getting a sack in the final five weeks.

Sensabaugh, 25, has been on a similar rise in his four-year career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 6-foot, 204-pounder had his best season in 2008 under the tutelage of new Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, tallying 70 tackles and four interceptions.

Sharper, 33, is at the other end of his career, but the four-time Pro Bowler still is an effective playmaker who would provide leadership and savvy. The 6-2, 210-pounder has 54 interceptions and nine forced fumbles in his 12-year career with the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers.

Yo Ron, the ball is in your court. Where do ya wanna be after the Super Bowl next year?

Parade down Canal St. and partying into Mardi Gras?

OR

Probably would come with an axe to Mckenzie's $6mil and maybe Brian Young's $3.7mil or Simoneaux's $1.8mil cap numbers.

True, would be a good trade off.

Agree Bartell = MM Gone

Any guess on what we might have offered

I think we go 5 years 35 million...If we cut MM we can easily afford this.???

Foxworth got 4yr/28mil 16 guaranteed

Rumored he wants 7mil a year, 40mil for 5 years high end

somewhere in between is my guess...

5 years $32.5mil $20mil guaranteed

Man, maybe it's just cause he's in lowly St. Louis, but I've basically know him by name and not much else.

I guess that's why i'm skeptical of such a large contract, but I guess he is pretty darn good.

"pay that man his money"
If he can be a lock down corner, half the battle is won and we can really get the BPA in the draft!!

I read St. Louis is holding ground on 6 mill per year. We would have to offer at least 6.5-7 mill. Saints should be 4-5 yrs at around 26-32 mill with 16-20 signing bonus.

I hope this dude is all that. I've seen him play a few games but never payed attention to him except the game vs Arizona, he looked real good. I hope he isn't another JD, high priced and getting smoked left and right.

everyone's a risk. you take chances in this high price game. you win some (brees, colston,pt) you lose some (grant/smith sullivan/david).

some are more risk than others. I'm not very comfortable paying this guy that kind of money for one decent season...

Hopefully, G dub is a better talent scout than Gary Gibbs.

Again, I don't think we need to out bid the rams if he wants to play for the better team.

More than that, he's a better coach.
