Garrett Nussmeier: Gallant Effort by his PR Team since January; Still a Day 3 Draft Pick

Hell of a publicity effort by Nussmeier’s Camp, Athletes First, during the past 100 Days.

You could see even on this Message Board that they had turned sentiment around on Garrett, amongst some of the toughest Tiger fans that had believed he quit on the team in November.

Ultimately to the NFL, it just wasn’t worth a Day 2 gamble or a favor to his OC Father on the Senior Bowl MVP.

I asked Google Gemini just now why Garrett slipped to Day #3 and it responded with these three potential reasons:

Performance Struggles: During the 2025 season, Nussmeier was described as having regressed, with critics pointing to poor decision-making, inexperience under pressure, and a high number of turnovers.

"Uncoachable" Narrative: The "uncoachable" sentiment stemmed from observations of his behavior, including tense moments on the sideline with Head Coach Brian Kelly. Reports noted instances where he appeared to ignore instructions, leading to public criticism from analysts.

Conflicting Reports on Injury: While some sources suggested he was dealing with a "mysterious" or persistent injury that affected his play, others pointed to a "loser mentality" or a lack of leadership.

Ouch.

I’m not sure why all of this is all of the sudden a mystery.

He’s not that great and he has some weird shite going on with his back. Nothing mysterious about why he’s dropping.

Kinda hoping Saints take him in the late rounds now just for the fun of it. When’s the last time a coach had his son on the team?

I've never seen a 5th year QB continue to backpedal against pressure and throw off his backfoot like we did once again this year. You tell me if that's coachable or not.

Brian and Kenzel Kelly were a popular Father/Son combo on the LSU football team last year!

If we take him with our second 6th rounder, great. Trade Rattler and let him battle it out with Zack Atrack. Battle of the Hot Moms!

Straight truth. Kid plays scared and you can't fix that.

So the cyst explains why he had zero off season practice? No 10,000 passes/receptions to his wide receivers like Jayden. Nothing. Wasted talent. I do wish him the best. But he doesn’t have that killer instinct like Joe Borrow.

Did you hear anything? Wouldn’t that have been a story. He got engaged and bought a house.

You realize people on here have friends who work for the team? It’s not like it’s some huge secret if someone is a hard worker or not. If it’s reported someone doesn’t put in the work, it’s normally true

He’ll make more in coaching than he’ll ever make as a player.

Loved him as a Tiger, seems like a great guy! The “uncoachable” coaching part is bullshite but the rest is not far off. He didn’t instinctively make great decisions, he was not good under pressure, and turned it over a lot.

That cyst really hurt him. Maybe a 5th rounder unfortunately.

You only say the uncoachable thing because he’s white. He was against the VR thing Jayden did before heisman season bc it “wasn’t real life” and was notorious for not putting in work. Screw him

There were only 3 or 4 QBs taken. That in and of itself seems odd, and I can only think of two more teams that could actually use a QB enough to draft one. Miami and Minnesota.

Tape doesn’t lie. Especially tape against anyone worth a damn. I’ve been saying for years on here Nuss is an average QB that could never be and never was what LSU fans wanted him to be. That’s OK, but the defenders always come out in full force to tell you how great he is.
