Did J discuss his pitching decisions while being so candid?

Evans starting 5th when he was over 85 P through 4?

Continuing with Rizy 2 more batters when he clearly had no command?

Ricken starting when we had cut it to 4? We had momentum

You’re not coming out with your best available arm down 4 in the 9th in a Game 1. Come on man.

He pointed the finger at Simpson for not making the play in the first for Evans not having enough gas in the 6th. He basically said those extra 9 to 10 pitches Evans had to make to get out of the inning effected him in the 5th and 6th. Although Evans struck the next batter out in 3 pitches after Simpson’s misplay.

I am a Jay defender. And he's the only man I want coaching this program. But he was wrong to keep Evans in the game as long as he did. The play by Simpson was not easy, and it only cost Evans THREE pitches and zero runs. Jay brought that up more than once in the press conference to throw Simpson under the bus on why Evans collapsed. Jay should have pulled him after 5 IP when he was around 95 pitches. No one else in the stadium thought it was a good idea to trot him out in the 6th, knocking on 100 pitches after giving up three runs in the 5th. The game got away from us there, and that was on the coaching.

Maybe. But I’m not going to Ricken there either. That was a complete throw-in-the-towel moment when we had some momentum.

Four runs is one swing of the bat come on.

We have the top of the order coming up.

But maybe I am stupid, has LSU ever come from behind four in the ninth before?

It was bad enough, bringing him out to start the fifth. Bringing him out to start the sixth was criminal.

The original throw in the towel moment last night.

Down 1-2 is a different story. Down 4 you’re not blowing pitching for the weekend in game 1.
Not calling you stupid. Just saying that’s not the move you make in that situation.

But it’s a very valid point. We keep coming up against these moments where we can get out of innings much quicker - one strike, one catch, or one routine throw - but we fail to make that clutch play and extend an inning. We have opposing players batting .250 in SEC play, but we can’t even throw them a strike, issue them a walk and have to face a guy hitting .350 instead. There are a lot of small things that we aren’t doing that compounds into bigger problems. It’s not JUST that teams are playing better than us. In many cases, WE are making mistak3s that give the opposing team more opportunities.

I mean, he brought in one of our better relievers after Evans, and that dude gave up a homer too. He's also trying to navigate a shitty pitching staff that has to pitch 3 games while missing probably our best starter

Sure, assuming three previous batters had managed to get on base.
