What to do around Oak Island/Southport NC

Headed there for a wedding out on the island. Anything worth doing besides heading to Wilmington?

Get out into some nature man. Hike some trails. Find some cool wildlife. Try and catch some fish.

Oak Island is one of the more quite barrier islands. There are a few restaurants and places to grab a drink but its mostly homes there. Southport is a cool little town with a waterfront with some bars and restaurants. Some pyscho shot up one of the bars from a boat last year so i dont know how that has affected the vibe... You could also take the ferry to Bald Head Island from Southport.
