we got the kids a trampoline for Christmas this year and I've noticed the grass under it grows about 50% higher than everywhere else

I've moved it every time I've mowed, so it all gets mowed the same, but wherever I put the trampoline, the grass underneath gets taller

I'm guessing the black trampoline surface keeps the heat from the sun under it a little warmer like a mini greenhouse

I have a few spots that need filling in, so I may move it over those

Somebody studied this effect

quote:

One important factor to consider when it comes to grass growth under a trampoline is the moisture level. Because the shade of the trampoline can make the ground underneath it wetter, the grass in that area may grow more vigorously. However, it’s important to maintain a balance, as too much moisture can potentially lead to issues like mold or fungus growth.

Opposite for me. Grass ended up dying and replaced by weeds and common bermuda. Ida took care of the trampoline and now my australian shepherd has worn a low spot in my yard that you can see in a satellite image. Only bermuda grows in the low spots

that’s right…higher ground moisture and higher humidity under the trampoline. St Augustine is native to coastal tropical and subtropical regions of South America and Africa…high humidity, high ground moisture, filtered sunlight tolerant. It’s why it has to be watered so much during periods of drought

the trampoline is creating a small microclimate under the tarp. Plus you aren’t pushing the mower over it so much, at Aug likes to grow tall

I always thought it was racing towards the sun, thinking it was being overtaken by other plants. It will grow faster like that under a clump of previously cut grass. I know trees do it.

It likes the shade and damp ground.
