What are the plans one has to undertake in order to resign from Congress?

How long does such planning take?

You just slip out the back, Jack / Make a new plan, Stan / You don't need to be coy, Roy / Just get yourself free / Hop on the bus, Gus / You don't need to discuss much / Just drop off the key, Lee / And get yourself free

You test the waters to see if people really will stomach you sticking around.
Instead of having a shred of honor and resigning immediately, you stick around like the pud he is.

Great question.
I've always been under the assumption that nobody voluntarily "resigns" from Congress because, if you're able to get there, you play your cards right and get rich from kickbacks before retiring into a taxpayer-funded life of cushy no-show jobs, speaking engagements, and insider trading.
Swalwell pissed off the wrong Swamp creature with his gubernatorial bid and now he's paying the price...

Who the hell doesn't do this in politics?

That is a great question. Along with, since resigning due to some malfeasance and wrong doing, should they be allowed to keep their pensions? Criminals aren’t allowed to benefit from their wrongdoing. Along with that, hearing rumors there are others that may be on the clock. Appears their misdeeds are being used against them to remove them from office, both parties.
Edwin Edwards was joking, but he wasn’t wrong. "The only way I can lose this election is if I'm caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy." Time to expose our representatives for exactly that what they are. Being our representatives is way down the list, if it’s even on the list.

Who was the last person in politics who came out and announced to the public that they “planned to resign” their office?
