the regular native termites swarm in April during the day. I have quite a few old trees and they are crawling all over the ground and up the trees. The little green anoles and skinks are feasting
Imported formosan termites swarm at night, mid may. If you live in New Orleans they are a familiar sight

IS there a real danger of these?

Yes. They will cause thousands of dollars in damage. You won’t notice until the damage is done.

termites are not a threat when swarming…if they get in your house just vacuum them up. Only a queen can start a colony.
subterranean termites (natives) live in the ground and are a minor threat to your home. Formosan termites are a different story…their colony will be inside your walls and typically tent/fumigation is the best way to treat. They will frick your shite up
Anyway…they are all harmless when swarming

I’ve never had to tent formosans. Now people tent dry wood termites. That’s about the only way to get them. Termites swarm out of homes all the time. Not just from the outside. Natives are harmful too but not as aggressive and colonies aren’t as big as Formosans. Both will do damage. The swarmers are looking to mate and start a new colony. Most die in the process because they have to get in ground fast because they are soft bodied insects and they have no hard exoskeleton. The elements will dry them out. Natives and Formosans will get in your walls. Formosans can make a carton nest in the walls though. Make sure you check your home for roof leaks. They can swarm and start an aerial colony and bypass any termite treated home. Aerial infestations aren’t covered in any termite contract. Good luck
