A runner who suffered a medical emergency during last Saturday's Crescent City Classic has died, race organizers said in a Facebook post. On Friday, Crescent City Classic announced that the runner experienced cardiac arrest on the route and later passed away. "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. The Crescent City Classic community is strong, and in moments like this, we come together to support one another," race organizers said in the post.

Way too many people doing these races without proper training
You can’t just show up and run these things without preparing your body

I've run many 5 and 10k races. I stay away from the CCC because most of the participants have no idea what they are doing.
A lot of slower runners and walkers line up in the front. I would spend more time going around people than going straight ahead.
It's not for me.

A participant in the Crescent City Classic 10K who went into cardiac arrest along the race route has died, organizers announced in a social media post Friday.
According to a fundraiser shared by race officials, Chase Morgan suffered brain damage due to a lack of oxygen and died after being treated in the medical ICU at University Medical Center. He is survived by his wife and two children, the fundraiser states.
"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him," the organizers' post read. "The Crescent City Classic community is strong, and in moments like this, we come together to support one another."
More than 20,000 people participated when the 48th annual race went off on April 4, the day before Easter. View on NOLA.com

condolences to the guy's family, but a 10k isn't killing someone who isn't 1) at extreme risk from dying from a pre-existing heart condition in his sleep or 2) at risk from dying from getting their fat asses up from the couch.

People need to be more diligent about getting tested for congenital hard conditions before doing these kinds of athletic events. All you need is a simple physical with an EKG.

If only there were these things called seeded corrals that place people according to how fast they can run.

Smart. The serious runners who know what they’re doing are always in the 5k races.

He was a physical therapist, so I don’t think this was the cause

Pretty much everyone experiences cardiac arrest when they die.
It’s a symptom of death, not a cause.
