Pittsburg Gazette

It would have been pretty crazy to have him at LSU.

He was one of those kids who committed to LSU but was never coming to school. He was probably making sure he had negotiation powers and a backup plan if he didn't like the team that drafted him

Surprised they didn’t wait another couple weeks to limit his days so he couldn’t qualify for a year of service.

Yet he got drafted by pirates, not exactly known for their commitment to winning

They called him up with enough time to still get the promotion incentive pick if he wins rookie of the year.

Everyone is bitching about how bad Pittsburg is and that Skeenes needs to get out of there - but with this guy, Skeenes, Bubba Chandler, and Carmen Mlodzisnki, they have arguably the best young talent in baseball.

Might not be a bad team to be a part of in a couple of years. And they actually spent more than they usually do in the offseason getting Osuna, Brandon Lowe and OHearn.

As a Cub fan I'm starting to worry about the 2027 and 2028 Pirate roster.

I think you are probably correct but LSU did apparently offer good money and his relationships with Crews and Skenes made him think pretty hard about it. In the end, he was the #1 high school prospect in the country. He’s viewed as a generational talent….Mike Trout at SS.
