The Chosen - Who's caught up and what's the board's opinion on the series?

My wife and I started this show a week or two ago, and we catch 2, maybe 3, episodes a night after our son goes to bed. You can tell the production quality is not that great in the beginning, but it really picks up season after season.
We're in season 5 and should wrap it up by this weekend. It's too bad season 6 doesn't come out until next year.
I'm curious what the board's opinions on the show are. I can probably predict that some won't like how it sensationalizes some parts and makes up others that aren't in the Bible. But the show has definitely gotten me to cross reference some events that the show depict... which is the whole point of the show as they make that known before season 1:1 starts.
One opinion I've seen on YouTube comes from Wes Huff and he had made the comment that either he, or someone he knew, made the comment that after watching the show, they started picturing Jonathan Roumie (the actor that plays Jesus), as they read their bible. They began to question whether that was that was something they should do. I don't know how I feel about that. For one, how are you supposed to imagine Jesus appears or looks like while reading the Bible? But then again, you don't want to mistake Jonathan Roumie as Jesus in real life either I guess.
Anyway, we watched the "Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees!" episode last night (Season 5:3 / Matthew 23). I've never imagined Jesus getting this worked up before.

I really enjoyed it so far. I’ll probably rewatch it all the way through again before the next season comes out.
I know some Christian’s don’t like it because they show things that aren’t written in the bible, but I take that with a grain of salt. It got me reading the bible again, and that’s definitely a good thing if nothing else.

ah... just googled it. Season 6 is in the fall and there's a movie next year during the Spring. my wife was telling me it was next year so that's probably what she saw and didn't realize it. NICE!

I like it and I am a believer, but I do wonder if the show would leave a young mind to think like the Jews do that Jesus was just another prophet out of many.

Is that the message you got?
I haven’t finished it yet but I never got the impression at least to the point where I am (S4) that Jesus was being portrayed as “just another prophet”, but was there language that I missed?

Love the show. Watched it twice so far and am really looking forward to the final season.

Do we know for certain it’s the final season?
They could get into the acts of the apostles

The show always does releases in theatres. Not sure who they are going to structure it but their will likely be a season 7 not just a movie.

I think it's good for the faith.
It helped contextualize the New Testament for me. I'm a kinda weak Catholic but the show got me to start reading the Bible again and at least bring me back spiritually
To me, Christian media is usually low quality in terms of production and this is the best I've seen.
The liberties they take seem to be very careful. Like they make Gaius into a full character from the unnamed Roman solider with the sick servant. Nothing seems too out of place.

Really well done. Wholesome.
No problem with extra things. None of them are in opposition to the nature of God. Just further reinforces the notion that God is perfect and the disciples are not.
I also saw the Wes Huff piece on making sure to not worship the actor.
It’s hard not to put a face in the Jesus in our head. It’s likely going to be some combo of Roumie and Cavezel for most Americans…

my only quirk with the series is how Matthew is portrayed as being autistic. it works, i guess, so it hasn't bothered me as much while continuing the series.

I don’t have a problem with this. I don’t think it has any biblical or historical basis, but it makes for a good reason in the series for why he was a tax collector (he didn’t fit in with his own people) and why he authored one of the gospels.

Yeah because how else would they give him reason to critique Jesus’ sermon on the mount during his speech preparation? Nowhere is that presented in scripture.
I will not watch or recommend it, and warn anyone to exercise discernment. It gets a number of things wrong in scripture, some very much more significant than others.

He didn’t fit in because everyone hated him. Tax collectors were agents of the Roman Empire, known to cheat people out of their wealth to enrich their own. This is why Jesus sitting down with him and other tax collectors was so significant, that Jesus was a friend of sinners. In the show it portrays Jesus as a friend of someone that just had a hard time fitting in. Which I’m not saying he isn’t… but that’s not exactly accurate for Matthew and why God revealed this to us in scripture because we ourselves are sinners, and he is a friend to us who believe.
This is one of the major flaws of the show, that relies more on feelings than biblical facts and truths.

I did not interpret it that way, but I went into the show believing that Jesus is the Son of God.

Well, to be perfectly honest, not too many people realize why tax collectors were so reviled. They just assume that these men were collecting taxes from Jews kinda like how the IRS collects taxes from us and that's why they were hated. What many laymen fail to recognize is that these tax collectors were skimming money off the top for themselves while also getting physically violent with people who could not pay. They were essentially low level enforcers for the Roman Empire. Matthew in all likelihood would have been a cheat and a bum who broke fingers for his superiors before falling in with Christ.

Matthew in the Bible? Probably so.
Matthew in the show? I don’t think he was the type to “break fingers”.

I found his episode and relationship with Matthew leading to his eventual conversion incredibly powerful as an example of the impact Jesus had on those who came into contact with him even if it embellished a bit.
