The NBA has informed teams that the league is projecting a $165 million salary cap for 2026-27 -- $1M lower than previous outlooks due to a reduction in local media revenue, sources tell ESPN. Minimum salary $149M, tax level $201M, first apron $209M, second apron $222M also $1M lower each.

2025-26 Season Overview
As of March 2026, national NBA viewership is up approximately 18% to 19% year-over-year. This growth is largely attributed to the league's new broadcasting landscape, which now includes NBC/Peacock and Amazon Prime Video alongside longtime partner ESPN/ABC.
Average Viewership: National games are averaging roughly 1.85 million viewers, the highest mid-season average since 2018.
Total Reach: Over 138 million unique viewers in the U.S. have tuned into at least one game this season, an 87% increase in reach compared to the previous year.
Key Trends & Demographics
Younger Audience on Streaming: While linear TV (ABC/NBC) still draws the largest raw numbers, Amazon Prime Video is attracting a significantly younger audience. The median age for NBA viewers on Prime is 46.6, nearly nine years younger than those watching on traditional broadcast networks.
Social Media Explosion: The league has generated over 75 billion video views across social platforms this season, a 32% increase, signaling that highlights and short-form content remain a primary way fans consume the game.
Methodology Shift: It is worth noting that Nielsen updated its measurement to "Big Data + Panel" in late 2025. While this accounts for some of the numerical increase by better capturing smart TV and out-of-home viewing, analysts agree the organic growth is still the strongest the league has seen in years.

The NBAs valuation is bizarrely propped up by things like “social media impressions” and stuff. It’s the real housewives of sports and very few “ball knowers” even watch it.

Insane but understandable they don't attribute any viewership increase to gambling.
I wouldn't be considered in the US figures but I probably watch 5 games a week because I gamble on them. That's a +5 views a week vs last year

I watch the Celtics regularly, but not the NBA as a whole. I care about my team, but I’m not watching everyone else night in or night out.
