Was just a little kid ; remember my Dad mentioning Bobick when he fought Norton

Thought that would be Gerry Cooney "The Great White Hope"

or Tommy Morrison??

What ever happened to John Tate? Impressive start to career 18- 0 - 15 KOs

And what happened to all the good Black Heavyweight Boxers now??
Was/is Deontay Wilder the "Great Black Hype" ?

Yeah. I remember the pre-fight hype on Cooney vs. Ali.

All the olds backed Cooney while the young's wanted Ali.

Ali's resistance to fight in Vietnam resonated with youths and was an undercurrent to his late 60's / early 70's fights.

You're thinking of Quarry not Cooney.

He himself was overhyped. He had a Glass Jaw for one. He was a big guy and his career was essentially over after back to back knockouts to Mike Weaver and Trevor Berbick. Drugs and alcohol came next which ruined many of the early 1980’s fighters Gerry Cooney included.
