Here Are the Ways an MRI Machine Can Kill You

Last month a man on Long Island died after he was pulled into a magnetic resonance imaging scanner by a large metal chain he was wearing around his neck.

In 2023 a Brazilian man took a loaded firearm into the MRI room where he was accompanying his mother. The magnet pulled the gun out of his waistband, and a shot went off when it hit the scanner. The bullet hit the man in the abdomen, causing a fatal injury.

There can even be problems with tattoos that contain certain metallic inks. In one case, a tattooed professional football player sustained burns during a pelvic MRI scan.
quote:
In one extreme example of internal metal objects causing damage during an MRI scan, a woman wore a sex toy into the MRI without the knowledge of the clinic staff.
quote:
In 2001, a 6-year-old boy was killed during an MRI at a hospital in Valhalla, New York, after a metal oxygen tank flew across the room when the machine’s electromagnet turned on.
And now you know.

What was a metal tank doing in there? And usually nurses check and ask.
The metal in tat ink is frightening. Screw tats.

The magnet is always on. Unless it is the initial start up, in that case the magnet takes hours to days to come up to full strength

Think the kid's oxygen level dropped dangerously low while in the machine and staff rushed in an O2 tank without thinking.

No need to do that. It'll be fine in the car.

You still considering bringing the sex toy?

There's some nail polish that has magnetic particles in it so you can do some design crap. Heard of a women's hands catching on fire in a MRI

How much of a deviant do you have to be to not be able to go an hour or two without one of your orifices crammed…

Does it affect all metal or only ferrous metal?

quote:
WESTBURY, N.Y. — A man who was pulled into an MRI machine in New York after he walked into the room wearing a large chain necklace has died, according to police and his wife, who told a local television outlet that he waved goodbye before his body went limp. The man, 61, had entered an MRI room while a scan was underway Wednesday afternoon at Nassau Open MRI. The machine’s strong magnetic force drew him in by his metallic necklace, according to a release from the Nassau County Police Department.
