NFL considering 5 year window for trading draft picks

A report is out that some teams are proposing and supporting a 5 year window for trading draft picks ( currently it is 3 years).
I think this is an awful idea. The current 3 year model prevents bad GM’s from doing too much damage to their franchise. I think this a huge factor in how the NFL is able to keep competitive balance. The NBA allows teams to trade picks so far in the future that it is madness.
I do not trust Loomis or any future GM of the Saints to not bankrupt the team’s future by blowing future picks. Even in the current system, Mickey has traded away more picks than any other team due to lopsided trades. I hate the idea that he could be empowered to throw away more to trade up for the next Marcus Davenport.

Yeah I don’t think the giants, browns or raiders need any more help sucking.

I enjoyed the plot up until that part. It was so stupid and asinine that it killed the whole movie for me

The NBA keeps "balance" by not allowing you to trade consecutive 1sts to offset how far in the future you can trade picks from, so really this proposal would make it even worse than the NBA.
And top players at best go for 2 1sts as is. The only difference this would make is allowing dumb teams to do dumber things, or MAYBE seeing if a team is stupid enough to trade five 1sts for Josh Allen (I'll let you decide which team there is the stupid one).
I honestly don't care if this passes or not, but some franchises will get fricked because of it.
Also, maybe look at who our coach was at different points in Loomis' tenure and see who the real culprit of those trades were. Pre Payton Loomis actually even traded back a few times, and post Payton we haven't done dumb shite with our picks in a while.
I'll point you to the Shough story on draft day as a perfect example of Loomis willing to be patient even though a lot of our staff was really nervous and wanted us to just go get him. Under Payton we absolutely would have traded up if Payton wanted him.

This would be dumb because at that point the price would just go up and you'd get the same thing for more. If this were a rule Cleveland wouldve traded atleast 4 first round picks for Watson and the 49ers mightve traded all 5 to miami to pick up Trey Lance, lol.

I tend to agree with this sentiment, but then I kinda picture Howie Roseman as Costner and Loomis as the green gm that panicked into a ridiculous trade like the one that landed us Olave.
And think, yea that could happen in real life…

Loomis didn't pick Olave jfc. The staff did. He did what he had to and made it happen. Tell me. What picks and FAs has Loomis said absolutely not?

Are you joking? Loomis is the gm, is he not ultimately responsible for who gets picked or the decision to trade up or back into the first and what to give up? Apparently he thought or someone he trusted advised him to give up a first to pick Olave or Penning that year. It’s ultimately his call.
Or do you think Gayle is making these decisions lol?

About as funny as thinking Loomis told everyone he's moving up no matter the cost to grab Olave cause he knows best lol
