Is it a libertarian thing I mean every time we go to war neon this neon that. Warmonger this warmonger that.

I’m not sure why we’re at war but I don’t understand why everyone in here seems to really think it’s a bad idea to take out these terrorist states.

Maybe you missed the last 50 years of history of wars in the Middle East?

Because George Bush and Obama weren’t successful in their 20 year wars so that means we can never have another war again.

No matter what.

Because there are, like, so many things that need fixing here!

There are two issues with wars in the Middle East:

1). They are fanatics eager to get to their virgins (or raisins depending on the translation you believe).

2) The west doesn’t fight to win and humiliate and subdue the enemy. You can’t win a war if the opponent doesn’t feel completely defeated.

1 - The Neocons in government lie to the American public as to the reasons for going to war. They want war at all costs. Their business is war and they make money off war. Wars are fought for money. They only benefit the 1% to the detriment to the 99%.

2 - the Middle East wars since 2001 are bankrupting our country. We now have $38 trillion in debt. Our government (us tax payers) have to service that debt. By servicing the growing, massive debt that doesn’t allow adequate spending for roads, infrastructure, education, health care, etc etc etc.

3 - war is destruction and devastation for the innocent people living in the countries we invade. We create homelessness for millions. Then… we relocate them to Western Europe and the USA. They don’t want to be here, and most Americans don’t want them here. This causes friction, division, and more money being spent on non citizens by our government.

Not everyone.

It's not a bad idea, just like sinking the drug boats ain't a bad idea.

These goat lovers have been killing and maiming Americans for 47 years. Thank God we have a President that is going to do something about it.

And screw anyone that doesn't like it.

hey op, what good came out of the war we just had with afghanistan?

what did the war in iraq accomplish? we killed saadam, but we could've done that without a 20 year war and thousands of US soldiers dead.

answer me that first

Because war is mass murder. Because war leaves wrecks of humans shuffling along the interstate with mental illness, leaves children without fathers or mothers or robs fathers and mothers of their children. It ruins generations and creates new hatreds that can dwarf those that came before. Wars created Hitler, Pol Pot and Bin Laden. War should be avoided at all cost but instead, we use it like some bullshite strategy game... and it rarely works.v

If you love war so much, be sure you or someone you love is the first in the line of fire... or kindly STFU.

The problem with this reasoning is that technically every government sponsors terrorists, meaning every government funds and supports proxies that are antagonistic to governments they dislike. If we really want to be honest, the U.S. government has funded Al Qaeda, ISIS, the Mujahideen, etc.

The fact is that our constitution only calls for decisions of war making to be made by Congress. Presidents love to get involved in wars because it shifts focus away from domestic issues. But the wars are open ended and harder to win when they are undeclared. The people, through their elected representatives in Congress, should see and hear the evidence and reasoning debated on and resolved in a republican manner. Despite mental gymnastics and lies, Iran has not attacked American soil and no evidence has been presented to show that such an attack was even imminent or possible. Therefore, not only is this constitutionally unsound, but also unjust.

I understand you’re saying this in jest. But there are many many more things that we can be doing here instead of sending untold billions of dollars and goods and manpower over to that shithole region. Those people have nothing to offer us, other than oil. Which we don’t fricking need.

Ignorance.

There’s been a litany of woe in that region for thousands of years, to say they hate each other makes a mockery of the word hate. I don’t mean just the Jews and the Arabs. The Shia and Sunni hate each other just about as badly.

Until one group finally manages to kill off all the rest it won’t change. Expecting anything else is just wishful thinking.

I honestly understand what you’re saying. It’s a very frustrating thing.

Many of us have a lot of inhibitions from the shite show Afghanistan and Iraq were. Totally understandable.

I think this has been going on for 50 years. Iran has killed and taken hostage many of our citizens and have been allowed to commit all kinds of atrocities.

If they have enriched uranium and are about to make a nuclear weapon, it will allow them to become another North Korea and I don’t think that’s good for us or anyone else.

I trust Trump with this. I don’t believe he’d do this if it was unnecessary. Although, it is a little unsettling to think of the risks, for sure.

Not even Mr. Libertarian himself, Murray Rothbard, said all wars are wrong.

This shite of making a caricature of libertarianism is way the frick out of hand.

We think war should be used to free US from the shackles of tyranny. The founders would have been stacking bodies here in the US over 100 years ago. That's how far off the rails we are from the founding principles.

Also, if we were truly being threatened, then that is an act of aggression, and using overwhelming force to neutralize that threat would be completely warranted. Problem is, we libertarians don't trust much at all from government sources, which has been shown to be the right call countless numbers of times.

Is there a risk that our government is telling the truth that Iran has weapons that can target our country (I don't even know if they made that claim, but it's just a thought experiment) that they want to launch on us in the next year and they are telling the truth? Yep. But, our government has not earned the benefit of the doubt.
